A Message From Dr. Brown October 2018
Principal’s Message October 22, 2018
Thank you so much for your continued support of Green Elementary – we could not do this without you!
Positivity Project Updates
Parents – we continue to work with our students to embrace the #otherpeoplematter mindset as they come to school and live in their communities each day. We’ve seen great examples of students engaging in the character strengths that we’ve talked about so far. As a reminder those character strengths are:
Curiosity – people who are interested, inquiring, adventurous, like to explore
Teamwork/Citizenship – people who are loyal, collaborative, inclusive, reliable
Open-mindedness – people who will try new things, reasonable, rational, critical thinking, sensible
Integrity – trustworthy, real, honest, sincere, do the right thing even when no one is watching
This week’s character strength of focus is Perspective – people who are wise, observant, and perceptive. Please remember to ask your children about these characters strengths each week and discuss ways that they can show these strengths at home, in the community, and at school.
Please slow down as you drive on our campus when visiting. We take the safety of students and staff very seriously. Parents who park across the street and cross away from crosswalks do so at their own risk – and the risk of families. Snelling Road is a public street – it is not part of our campus. We ask again that you use our carpool lane to drop students off in the morning or that you park in our parking lot to walk students inside if you choose. Thank you.
Our next Family Academy will be held on Nov 15, 2018.
Registration forms will come home soon. Dinner will be served at 6:00 to those registered, classes begin at 6:30 pm. Childcare is provided, and we will have interpreters upon request. Please join us.
It’s that time of year when coats and hats come into the building. Please take a moment to mark the inside collars of coats, lunch boxes, and hats with your child’s name. This makes it much easier for us to return lost items to their appropriate owners. Thanks!
Make plans to attend our first Leadership Showcase on November 8. You may come into the school that morning, 8:00-8:45 to sit with your child and review their Leadership Data Notebook. OR you may come to school that night at 6:00pm to see Art displays from classrooms, hear our Fifth Graders sing songs they have been working hard on this quarter, and visit your child’s classroom to review their Leadership Data Notebooks. This will be a great time as well to talk with your child about the Character Strengths they are using here at school. See you on November 8!
VOTE NOVEMBER 6! Remember that schools open on a 2 hour delay that day. Green Elementary will open doors to students at 10:45am. YMCA before school care opens at 9:00.
ARTS IN ACTION – FOURTH GRADE
Arts in Action staff have been working hard with our Fourth Grade students this quarter. Their final performance will take place on Friday, November 9 at 6:15pm in our gym. Fourth Grade parents – mark your calendars and plan to attend!
******Parents we need your help. We’ve recently noticed an increase in peer conflict that arises from assumptions and misunderstandings. We ask you to support our work here at school at teaching students to “presume positive intent” when addressing issues with peers. Simply, we are trying to teach students not to assume the worst about a person OR to make assumptions about them or their actions. We thank you advance for your support reinforcing the important 4th and 5th Covey habits – Think Win-Win and Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood.
Breakfast: You must arrive in the cafeteria by 9:10 to get served. Students arriving on campus at the bell should go directly to the classroom so that instruction begins on time.
