Students have studied Curiosity and Open-Mindedness.  This week our focus will be #Perspective.  If Perspective is one of your top strengths, you can see the big picture and make sense of the world’s complexity.  Perspective provides the capacity to achieve clarity and to see to the heart of a matter.  Our students engage this character strength often when they are problem solving and working in teams.

    We invite all parents to participate in the Positivity Project with us.  You can take the VIA Character Survey to learn about your character strengths!  It’s free and very interesting.  You can find it at https://www.viacharacter.org/survey/account/register

    For Parents of Students in Math 1

    Dear Parents of NC Math 1 Students,

    We have created an invaluable new resource for your child to ensure that he or she is successful in Math 1! The NC Math 1 Student Support Site is designed for you to help your child stay on track while offering you resources to help him or her with homework.

    For each Math 1 Unit the site includes:

    • A link to each task that your child works on in class;
    • A link to the “Ready, Set, Go! Homework” assignments that your child works on each evening;
    • A video to assist your child in completing the homework assignment appropriately, in a way that ensures he or she understands the work. We encourage you to watch these videos with your child to stay on top of what they are learning and offer assistance if needed.

    The “Ready, Set, Go!” homework assignments have been correlated to the daily classroom experience.  The homework is organized into three parts:

    • The “Ready” section helps the student get ready for the upcoming work and prepare to learn new material.
    • The “Set” section is for practicing the skills that are being developed in the current lessons.  As students practice, the new mathematical skills become more set or fluent.
    • The last section of homework, called “Go!”, is to help students remember the skills and procedures that they have learned previously.  As students mature mathematically, there are many math problems they should be able to do whenever they encounter them.

    We encourage you to take advantage of the NC Math 1 Student Support Site via your student’s login to our Canvas website. Once you have logged in to Canvas, click on the tile that says "NC Math 1 Student Support Site" to access the support resources.

    Best,

  • Weekly Message for September 11-15

    Posted by Kelly Aman at 9/10/2017 5:30:00 PM

    We are excited to welcome our families to our annual Open House night on September 14 at 6:00. The evening will begin with a parent meeting in the gym. Following the meeting, each parent will have the opportunity to follow their child’s schedule in order to meet their teachers and receive helpful information.

    Carpool parents please wait until you pass the yellow stop bar before allow students to leave your car and ensure that all students exit on the right side of the car.  This helps us keep students safe in carpool.

    Please make certain you’ve made after school and transportation arrangements with your child before our school day begins.  We are happy to assist you with an emergency message but are unable to take routine messages for students.  Also, please note that students who are leaving school early must be checked out prior to 2:45pm.

    The grade level teams have shared their bookbag policies for this year. Students in each grade level are permitted to bring bookbags into the classroom. Students should make sure to get the materials they need from their bags at the beginning of class to eliminate the need to return to their bags during class time.

    Lockers were issued in all grades last week.  Each student needs 2 locks – one for the grade level building locker and one to secure belongings in the PE locker room.

    As we pause on September 11th, West Millbrook would like to thank first responders and their families for their service and sacrifice for our country.

    There will be a Parent Meeting for all Fall Athletes will be on Tuesday, September 12 at 5:15 on the gym.  Please remember to bring your donation to the Booster Club for the Concession Stand.  Each sport has a specific donation and the coaches will tell the players.  Also, here is the link to sign up to work in the concession stand.  Please take a moment and sign up.

    www.SignUpGenius.com/go/10C054FAFAC2BA13-20172018

    We ask Football Parents to work the Volleyball/Soccer games and Volleyball/Soccer parents to work the football games.  The concession stand is very important to help raise money for the athletics program.  Below is the link to  the Athletic Pass Application. You may fill it out and bring with you to the meeting.  Booster Club members will be there to accept the donations and applications.
