Ms. Aman's September 7 Family Message
Posted by Kelly Aman on 9/7/2025Para leer este mensaje en español, haga clic aquí.
Open House/Meet the Teacher is Thursday, September 11 from 5:30pm – 7:00pm. Families may park in front of the media center, auditorium and gym. Families may also park on the other side of the football field (baseball/softball field parking). Please do NOT park on the grass or sidewalks.
Parents/Guardians will begin the evening in the gym promptly at 5:30pm.
Classroom visits will begin at 5:50pm and conclude at 7:00pm.
Parents/Guardians will need to bring a copy of their student’s schedule (including teacher names and room numbers). Consider having your student write this information down for you or screenshotting it from your parent portal or their Infinite Campus site.
Parents/Guardians may visit their child’s classrooms in the order they wish. Some families may choose to follow their child’s schedule while other parents/guardians may elect to visit classes that are close together (think core classes which will all be on the same hallway) and then visit classes that are spread throughout the building (arts, design, language acquisition, PHE). We will not ring bells or visit classes on a scheduled rotation.
Our PTA will have spiritwear on sale from 5:00pm – 7:00pm near the front lobby in front of the elevators so stop by to purchase some Wildcat swag!
Carpool Reminders: Drivers should be alert and may not use cell phones in the loading/unloading zone. Drivers must follow directions of staff on duty. After school carpool ends at 3:30pm and all students must be picked up no later than 3:30pm.
Morning Carpool: Unloading is single file and cars do NOT pull around other cars. Please pull all the way forward with only a short distance between your car and the car in front of you so we can fit 6 cars in the front unloading zone and 4 cars in the side unloading zone. Students should unload in both unloading zones following the directions of staff on duty.
Afternoon Carpool: Pull all the way forward to the flagpole area as directed by staff, leaving enough room between your car and the car in front of you to pull around. When your student is safely in your car, pull left and around cars still waiting for their students.
Student absences: If your student is absent from school, please email attendance608@wcpss.net Include your name, your student’s name, the date(s) of the absence, the reason for the absence and your phone number. Our attendance team will code the absence in Infinite Campus.
West Millbrook’s Beta Club has been recognized as a National Beta School of Distinction. We are very proud of this accomplishment!
Class Change Requests: Students may complete a choice/elective course change request 9/8 - 9/10. The form and instructions will be available in the grade level Canvas classroom on the 8th. Please understand that a request is not a guarantee that a change will be made. Many classes are already full. Counselors will do their best to accommodate changes. Students will be notified of decisions by 9/15.
West Millbrook Student Council 2025-2026! We need representatives from each grade level to join Student Council for this school year. Student Council is run by Mrs. Jetter and Ms. Williams and participating students have the opportunity to practice leadership and responsibility, as well as being involved in decision making and event planning for our whole school community.

The deadline for turning in campaign materials is this Friday September 12th. Email cjetter@wcpss.net or jwilliams59@wcpss.net if you have questions.

Ms. Aman's Labor Day Family Message

School is closed on Monday, September 1 for the Labor Day Holiday. School resumes on Tuesday at 8:15am.
Great First Week: Students, parents, families and teachers were awesome last week. Laughter and smiles filled our classrooms, cafeteria and hallways. Thank you! I am so impressed by the kindness and politeness our students demonstrate. It was a joy to visit their classrooms and see them intently engaged in learning.
Carpool Reminders: Drivers should be alert and may not use cell phones in the loading/unloading zone. Drivers must follow directions of staff on duty. Afternoon carpool ends at 3:30pm and all students must be picked up no later than 3:30pm.
One note: students may not exit cars in front of the metal gates (near corner of building) due to safety reasons. We have the gate marked by YELLOW cones and we try to stop drivers if there isn’t enough room on the other side of the gate for student exit. Finally, your children are a pleasure in the morning. They greet staff on carpool duty as they head to the building and are happy! It’s a great way to start our day!
Afternoon Carpool: Pull all the way forward to the flagpole area as directed by staff, leaving enough room between your car and the car in front of you to pull around. Ms. Aman's August 24 Family Message
Posted by Kelly Aman on 8/23/2025 6:00:00 PMPara leer este mensaje en español, haga clic aquí.
We have a lot to celebrate! West Millbrook Magnet Middle School is a Nationally Certified – Demonstration magnet school. This means that we not only meet but exceed the MSA’s five pillars of “diversity, innovative and professional development, academic excellence, high-quality instructional systems and family and community partnerships.” Our school is an IB World School, a Top 2025 Magnet School of Excellence and a Nationally Certified – Demonstration magnet school! It’s a great year to be a Wildcat!
It was wonderful to see students and their families on campus for schedule walk-through last Thursday. Our Year 1 students are curious, energetic and happy students ready to embrace every opportunity middle school offers! I saw many, many acts of kindness during Catapult and am very impressed with our newest Wildcats!! I was thrilled to see so many Year 2 and Year 3 students in the afternoon. Our student body is vibrant and engaged – it’s going to be a great year! We are excited to welcome students to campus tomorrow (Monday, August 25) for the first day of school! Students may enter the building at 7:45am.
Communication: This message is being sent via phone call, email and text. If you are not receiving it via all 3 methods, you’ll want to ensure your contact information is updated with our main office. You may also need to opt in to text messages and be certain you have not inadvertently unsubscribed to school email or accidentally blocked the sender. Information about opting in to text messages as well as what to do if you are not receiving messages is available HERE. Please read the message in its entirety before contacting the school.
My regular communication will be via text and email each Sunday. I reserve phone messages for more urgent communication needs.
Student Schedules: All students will receive a printed copy of their class schedule tomorrow during 1st period. Staff will be stationed throughout the campus with a list of students and their first period teacher for students who do not know what their 1A class is.
I want to clarify the names of the language acquisition classes as there have been several questions about correct language placement:
Spanish/French/Chinese Beginning Less Than One Year – Beginning level class
Spanish/French/Chinese Beginning One Year – Intermediate Level Class
Chinese Continuing Two Years OR – Spanish/French For High School Credit – Advanced Language Course
Finally, because we build our master schedule based on classes students select during spring course registration, we are not often able to make schedule changes due to course and seat availability. No schedule changes will be made this week. Next week, school counselors will communicate the process for requesting schedule changes and they will begin receiving schedule changes requests on September 2. Students will attend their currently scheduled classes until/unless a schedule change is made.
New District Cell Phone Policy Cell phones and personal communication devices must be turned off and put away from the time students arrive on campus until students are dismissed by their last period teacher. “Put away” means out of sight and not easily accessible (in a bookbag/locker). Devices may NOT be in pockets of student clothing (pants pocket, hoodie pocket, etc). Students may not display, use or make devices available during the school day.
Please share this important information with your student now so there is no confusion when students arrive on August 25.
Carpool Procedures: CARPOOL PROCEDURES Patience, please! Please be patient during carpool this week as students and drivers learn to navigate our carpool procedures. It generally takes about a week for carpool times to become normal.
Please be alert for our walkers and bike riders as you are entering and exiting campus.
Bus Info: District transportation information is available at Transportation Information. Bus routes may be located at West Millbrook Bus Routes. Make certain that you check these websites regularly as information is often updated. Find real time bus information, updated daily, provides information about buses running off schedule. Bookmark this location for easy reference.
Information for Walkers and Bike Riders Walkers and bike riders coming from Falls of Neuse or the opposite side of Strickland enter campus at the stoplight. There are button activated pedestrian walk lights at this location. Walkers and bike riders coming from the Running Cedar side of campus will cross at the inbound carpool crosswalk (be alert for incoming carpool traffic) and may walk up the sidewalk at that entrance or continue down to the stoplight entrance. All walkers and bike riders enter campus on sidewalks and enter the building at the gym entrance. Walkers and bike riders should not walk/ride in inbound or outbound carpool lanes.
Chromebooks will be issued to eligible Year 1 students and to new to WCPSS Year 2 and Year 3 students beginning later this week. New Chromebooks will have cases that are blue and grey. Students should NOT try to remove these cases, or their Chromebook screens WILL crack, resulting in damage not covered by warranty.
First Week of School: Students will not need all of their supplies on the first day of school or during the first week of school. All students need a notebook and writing utensil, a water bottle, lunch (if they are bringing lunch) and a snack. Please do not allow your student to bring a heavy bookbag loaded with supplies at the start of the school year.
Grade level supply lists may be found at this link.
Gum Free Campus: West Millbrook is a gum free campus. Please review this expectation with your child and ensure that he/she does not bring chewing gum to school.

All children will enter their Infinite Campus student number as they pick up lunch so please help your student memorize this number. Our cafeteria will also be selling a la carte items this year. Friday, June 13 was the last day of the 2024-25 school year! It’s been a great year and I wish our students and their families a happy summer!
Huge thanks to the Wildcat PTA for your outstanding support of our end of year student activities at all grade levels! In addition to hosting the Year 3 Dance and picnic, our PTA supported the Year 1 field trip, pizza party and Olympics and the Year 2 field trip and pizza party! I want to specifically thank the many parents who decorated for the dance, manned the refreshments during the dance, cleaned up after the dance, met the vendors the following week to return items used at the dance, handed out hotdogs/chips/drinks at the picnic, supervised activities at the picnic, chaperoned field trips and did all the many things that nobody saw that made things run smoothly for our students as they concluded another year! THANK YOU!!!!
Report cards were sent home with students last week.
