• Athletic Boosters Organizational Meeting

Posted by Kelly Aman on 6/30/2021 1:00:00 PM

We are currently recruiting volunteers to serve on the 2021-2022 Athletic Booster Board. This year is a great time to volunteer - we have our new school on the horizon, full sports seasons for all athletic teams and other fun activities are planned.  After 15 months of pandemic school with limited opportunities for our student-athletes and their families, there is a revitalized energy on campus that just feels positive and happy!!

We'd like to bring everyone interested in helping Athletic Boosters together on Wednesday July 21, 2021 at 6PM.

Information about the location will be sent once we know how many plan to attend!

Please click Athletic Booster Information for more info and to RSVP for the organizational meeting.  We hope to connect with you soon!

EOG/EOC End of Year Testing continues on Monday, June 7.  The testing schedule is available here.  As a reminder we are not permitted to interrupt the testing setting and are not able to check any students out until the school-wide testing session concludes.  Additionally, FitBits and SmartWatches are not permitted in the testing session. Please have students leave those items at home.   We anticipate the school-wide testing session to conclude by 12:00noon daily but cannot guarantee that.

On Monday, students will attend 5A, 3A, 1A, 2A after the testing session concludes.

Make up testing is scheduled for June 8 and June 9.  We hope to run a regular bell schedule on these days but it will depend on staff needed to administer make up tests.

Hotspots and ELA novels must be turned in on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday to the main office.  Novels are already past due and hotspots are due this week.  The main office is open from 7:30 – 4:00 to turn in these items.

Carpool Loop is closed on Thursday from 8:30 – 2:00 for the Year 3/8th Grade Drive Through Promotion event.  Parents needing to access the main office on Thursday should park in the bus parking lot and walk up to the main office.

On Thursday, June 10, families can drive through the main carpool with their student, take pictures in front of the balloon arch and be cheered and greeted by the Year 3 teachers and the administrative team.  Carpool will be closed to through traffic that day after 8:30am to accommodate this event for our soon-to-be high school freshmen.

To help with traffic flow and reduce wait times:

    Families with last names A – L        8:30am – 10:30am

    Families with last names M – Z       10:30am – 12:30pm

    Any family                                      12:30pm – 2:00pm

The event will end at 2:00pm but we will leave the arch up for families that would like to come after carpool ends to take additional pictures.  Afternoon picture opportunities begin at 3:45pm.

On June 9, Year 3 will have a class meeting at 10:30am.  Year 3 students who are in the Virtual Academy are invited to attend this meeting, though it is not required.  If your Year 3 student will attend the class meeting, parents must drop them off at 10:15am in carpool and pick them up at 11:45am in carpool.

Also, we are seeking donations of small bottles of water for Year 3 students.  If you can donate, please drop them off at the main office on Monday.

I’d like to offer a huge THANK YOU to the 2020-21 PTA Board President Ryan Ramey, Vice Presidents Heather Milne and Jeana Ellis, Secretary Natalie Schoeny and Treasurer Jenny McClendon.  This board has worked with me to navigate pandemic school and to support students and teachers in the most unusual circumstances.  They have supported food drives for our families, sold spirit wear to promote school unity and spirit, organized teacher and staff appreciation events, supported our magnet programming, provided teacher curriculum assistance funding and teacher grants, and even scheduled cultural arts (virtually) to provide opportunities for students.  I’ve missed your constant physical presence on campus this year, but your virtual presence (and support) were certainly felt.  Thank you for leading!

Teacher Appreciation Week!  May 3 – 7 is National Teacher Appreciation Week!  Please take a moment to send a note thanks to your child’s teachers who have worked tirelessly to navigate pandemic school with your children this year.  West Millbrook is fortunate to have an outstanding faculty!

Virtual Academy Registration for 2021-22 closes TODAY (SUNDAY) at 5pm.  Registration may be complete here.  More information about the Virtual Academy for next year may be found here.  It is my hope that Wildcat students will all return to the building in August but I acknowledge that some families may not be comfortable with that, so I am grateful that a different option exists for those families.

IB Site Visit:  Last week, West Millbrook hosted a visiting team from the IB as a final step in our quest for authorization as an IB World School!  I am so proud of how our students, teachers and parents shared how the IBMYP has transformed West Millbrook!

Carpool:  Please comply with all directions of staff during morning and afternoon carpool.

Morning Carpool begins at 7:50am.  For morning carpool, remain on the right against the curb.  After your student exits the car, you will pull forward and exit campus.  For morning carpool, all cars remain in a single file line.

Afternoon Carpool begins at 3:00pm.  Families should pull all the way forward to the stop bar line.  Remind your student to be alert for your arrival and to move quickly into your car.  Once your student is in your car, pull left out of the carpool line and exit campus.  Cars should continue to pull all the way forward and fill all available space for afternoon carpool.  Students may not congregate in carpool and must be picked up promptly.

End-of-Year Testing:  EOG and EOC testing begins on Thursday, May 27 and continues through the end of the school year.  In the new few weeks we will share which tests (grade level and subject) will be given on which days.
