    It’s basketball season.  Both boys and girls play at home on Monday and away on Thursday this week!  Come out and support our student athletes.  Games begin at 3:45pm.

     

    The winter band and orchestra concert is on Thursday at 7pm in the gym. 

     

    PowerSchool will be unavailable December 7 – 10 for NCDPI maintenance.

     

    Interims will be distributed to students on Friday, December 7. 

     

    Lockdown drills are an important part of our school's safety plan.  West Millbrook conducts at least 2 drills annually.  Our school will participate in a lockdown drill before the winter break holiday.  

     

    Holiday Hugs is HERE!  It is that time of year when your help is needed. Every year, the Counseling and Student Services Department holds their Annual Holiday Hugs Program. Holiday Hugs is a program where the Counselors and Social Worker bring joy to some of our West Millbrook families for the holiday season. With your generosity, the Counselors and Social Worker provide a holiday gift to the Wildcat students in these families, along with a home-made meal and a celebration for the students and their families.

     

    Please stop by the main office and select a heart hanging from the silver tree. Ms. Dodd will give you the corresponding envelope, along with some demographic information about the child you will be sponsoring. You will purchase a $25.00 gift card, based on the information you receive about your child.  Return your heart, your envelope, and your gift card back to Mrs. Dodd in the main office by December 14th.  Thank you! 

     

     
    Bedford Falls Book Fair: December 3rd - 7th
    Shopping hours 7:45 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. each day

    When you purchase books at the school book fair, 40% of your purchase gets donated back to our school library. 
    STUDENTS will visit the book fair with their ELA classes and create wish lists to share with you. 

    PARENTS, books make great holiday gifts so come shop the book fair!

    School resumes on Monday, November 26 at 8:15am.

    District 3 BAC meets Monday night at 6pm at Durant Road Middle School. Join us for a  WCPSS District 3 Board Advisory Council meeting with our representative Roxie Cash.  Chief of Communications, Tim Simmons will give a budget presentation.

  • Ms. Aman's Message for Thanksgiving Week

    Tuesday, November 20 is an early release day.  Students will be released at 12:30pm and faculty will be in professional learning until 4pm. 

     

    West Millbrook Magnet Middle School will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday from Wednesday, November 21 – Sunday, November 25.  School resumes on Monday, November 26.  Safe travels to our Wildcats who will be visiting family and friends.

    Our School-wide Parent Conference Night was a huge success!  We enjoyed connecting with families last Thursday. 

     

    We continue to focus on GRATITUDE this week.  Of all the 24 Positivity Project character strengths, GRATITUDE is the single best predictor of someone’s well-being.  I am grateful for our school community, for the teachers who care deeply about their students and for the families that support our school’s mission.  I’m also grateful to have the best job in the world! 

     

    Last Thursday and Friday we celebrated academic and character excellence in grade level celebrations.  All A Honor Roll certificates and Positivity Project Character Strength certificates will be sent home with students on Monday.  

     

    Hats off to our amazing Student Council for Friday night’s Winter Wonderland dance!  The decorations were spectacular and appearances by Wiley the Wildcat x 2 made the night a huge success.  I am so proud of our student leaders and their advisors:  Ms. Cozzie, Ms. Carmenate and Ms. Colvin for flawless execution.

  • Ms. Aman's Weekly Message for Veteran's Day Week

    School is closed on Monday, November 12, for the Veterans Day holiday.  Thank you to the family members of our students and teachers who are serving active duty in our military or who are military veterans, and thanks to the families who have sacrificed while their loved ones served our country.

     

    Our School-wide Parent Conference Night is Thursday, November 15!  If you were not able to secure the conference that you wanted, please contact your child’s counselor or team leader to schedule a conference on a different date. 

     

    It is that time of year when your help is needed. Every year, the Counseling and Student Services Department holds their Annual Holiday Hugs Program. Holiday Hugs is a program where the Counselors and Social Worker assist with bringing joy to some of our West Millbrook families for the holiday season. With your generosity, the Counselors and Social Worker are able to provide a holiday gift to the Wildcat students in these families, along with a home-made meal and a celebration for the students and their families. If you are interested in helping out, here is what you can do. There will be hearts hanging from a silver tree in the main office. Choose a numbered heart from the tree, and Ms. Dodd will give you the corresponding envelop, along with with some demographic information about the child you will be sponsoring. You will purchase a $25.00 giftcard, based on the information you receive about your child, and then return your heart, your envelop, and your giftcard back to Mrs. Dodd in the main office by December 14th.  Thank you!

     

    We begin a 2 week study of GRATITUDE in P2 this week.  Of all the 24 character strengths, GRATITUDE is the single best predictor of someone’s well-being.  I’ve attached a character strength card about gratitude to this message.  As we head into the Thanksgiving period, let’s take a moment to express gratitude.

We are excited to showcase the IBMYP at West Millbrook and to invite future Wildcats to join our wonderful school community.  Parents are often the best source of recruiting families and students and we hope you will encourage families that you know (particularly current 5th grade families) to consider West Millbrook Magnet Middle School!  

     

    First Quarter Report Cards were sent home with students on Friday, November 9. 

     

    Quarterly celebrations to recognize academic and character excellence will be held on Thursday and Friday for all 3 grade levels.  198 students qualified for the All A Honor Roll for 1st Quarter and 42 students will be recognized for demonstrating P2 Character Strengths!  We are so proud of our students

     

    Basketball tryouts for girls and boys begin on Tuesday. 

     

    PTA Spirit Night on 11/13 @ CIty BBQ.  10:30am – 10pm.  25% of sales is donated to the West Millbrook Magnet Middle School PTA so enjoy dinner out and support our school!  Flyers were sent home with students last Friday and are available on the PTA website.  You must show the flyer in order for the West Millbrook PTA to receive the donation!

    Congratulations to the 2019-20 West Millbrook Magnet Middle School Teacher of the Year Claire Jetter!  Ms. Jetter is a 7th grade ELA teacher, serves as the team leader for the Lions team and is our Beginning Teacher Mentor Coordinator!  We are proud of Ms. Jetter and appreciate all that she does for students.

    Wednesday, October 31 is now a school day for students.  As a reminder, costumes and masks are NOT permitted at school even on Halloween. Students are invited to wear RED on Wednesday for National Drug Free Day! 

     

    First quarter ends on Tuesday, October 30.  This is a good time for parents to help students set academic goals for 2nd quarter.

    The WCPSS Magnet Fair is Saturday, November 3 from 9am – noon at SE Raleigh High School.  If you are the parent of a current 8th grader (or a rising 6th grader), we invite you to attend the magnet fair to learn more about your magnet and early college options!   

     

    Volleyball and soccer play at home on Tuesday vs. Leesville and football plays at home on Thursday vs Leesville.

     

    Hurricane Relief – In the spirit of Positivity Project and the #OtherPeopleMatter mindset, West Millbrook Magnet Middle School adopted middle school students in Wallace, NC.  These students returned to school last Thursday for the 1st time since Hurricane Florence.  This week we will deliver  school supplies, cleaning supplies and a new blanket or throw to each students in grades 6 – 8 at this school.  We are only 24 blankets short of our goal of 250.  If you can donate a new blanket or throw, school or cleaning supplies please drop them off on Monday! 

     

    Positivity Project News:  Thanks to the parents that have completed the Via Character Strengths Survey.  If you have not yet, I am inviting all parents to take the VIA Character Survey https://www.viacharacter.org/survey/account/register) to learn what your top 5 character strengths are.  My top strength is PERSEVERANCE, followed by Honesty and Zest.  This is a great way for you to learn more about the Positivity Project and it creates a common language about what’s happening at school!  As your child about P2 and their top character strength! 

     

    Open House Update:  Hurricane Florence played havoc with the West Millbrook event calendar, including the cancellation of fall Open House on September 13.  On November 15, West Millbrook Magnet Middle School is hosting Fall Parent Night beginning at 4:30pm.  Information about how to sign up for parent/teacher conferences will be sent out next week and we invite parents to attend this event.

  • Ms. Aman's Message for October 15

    Truck Fair is this Friday.  This annual event is our 6th graders first introduction to career development at the middle school level.  Our front driveway will be closed to traffic from 8:15am – noon.  If you need to access campus between these hours, please park in the bus lot and walk to the main office. 

     

    Friday is also PINK OUT for Breast Cancer Awareness.  All Wildcats are encouraged to wear PINK as we bring awareness to this terrible disease!

     

    Spirit Week begins on Thursday, October 18 and runs through Wednesday, October 24 with the pep rally and Battle of the Brooks game!  

     

    On Tuesday, October 16, Wake STEM Early College will host an information session in the West Millbrook media center for 8th graders and their parents who are interested in attending Wake STEM Early College High School next year.  The event begins at 6:30pm.

    We are very appreciative of the Activate Good volunteers who have done an enormous amount of work on our campus – from painting our planters to restoring the school sign, it’s great to have the community invest in our school.  Murphy’s Naturals completed a lot of exterior work a few weeks ago and last Friday, Leaf and Limb performed some much needed interior work!  Activate Good will be back on Thursday for more interior work!  I am so grateful for our community partners.

There are many options, from just a season to the full year, from students only to entire families.     BATTLE OF THE BROOKS
    Finally, the annual and much anticipated Battle of the Brooks football game pitting the West Millbrook Wildcats against the East Millbrook Cougars under the lights at Millbrook High School will be on October 24th.     Here are some of the highlights:


    Students stay after school with their friends

    • have pizza and other treats
    • play games, hangout and
    • take an activity bus to the game.

     

    We will provide the food, drinks, game ticket and transportation for $15 per student. Students will need to be picked up at 8:00 pm from Millbrook High School. Other concessions will be available for purchase both at West Millbrook before the game and at the game at Millbrook.
