Principal's Weekly Message
Good afternoon Middle Creek High School families,
It was a beautiful Fall week here at MCHS. I appreciate everyone’s patience and flexibility with our testing schedule on Tuesday. We had great participation on both the PSAT and PreACT and our students not testing made good use of the time. Next week is a full 5 day week, so we look forward to getting back into the normal routine as we approach the end of the Quarter.
Below is some additional information and items for your calendars. I appreciate your attention to all of the details!
Information & Reminders:
Yearbooks On Sale!
Yearbooks are still available for order! Go to yearbookordercenter.com and enter code 10474 to get yours. After signing in, parents of seniors can also design and submit an ad tribute for their senior to be included in the yearbook. Please email Mr. Williams at pwilliams@wcpss.net with any questions.
Middle Creek HS will be hosting a community Trunk or Treat event on Oct. 30th at 5:30pm. Our MCHS student clubs (along with our neighboring schools) will be decorating trunks and offering games that night. We would love your support in collecting candy to distribute this night (as there is always a great crowd!). Please consider supporting this event by dropping off bags of candy to our front office, or having candy shipped to MCHS earmarked for our PTSA. Thank you!

9th Grade Safety Presentation
Beginning next week, our Student Assistance Program counselor Brentt Coley will be implementing the Signs of Suicide presentation with 9th grade students through their Healthful Living classes. This WCPSS-mandated program is shared annually with our 9th grade students. For the past 10 years, we have also been implementing the program a second time with the Senior Class through the social studies classes.
During the 90 minute presentation, several topics are covered: Clinical symptoms of depression and anxiety, prevalence data for mental health struggles as well as suicidal ideation, normalization that having suicidal thoughts is more common than most realize, confidentiality guidelines and limitations, healthy versus risky coping mechanisms/behavior, and how to better support friends and loved ones who are struggling.
At the conclusion of each presentation, students self-indicate whether or not they would like to individually connect with a counselor. Our Student Services Team connects with each self-identified young person to assess and support them appropriately. Anytime a student indicates that they are struggling following the presentation, we always reach out to connect with parents directly after speaking with a student. While we will earnestly and honestly share our impression of your student's emotional well-being and assess their immediate safety, we also respect and trust that the foremost expert on and advocate for any student is their parent. If you would like to know more about the program or you feel confident that you would like for your child to be excluded from this presentation, please feel free to contact Brentt Coley at 919-773-3838 x 21910 or bcoley@wcpss.net. You can also see more about the program at https://sossignsofsuicide.org/parent.
