The Sunday Kickoff Message for 09/19/21
Baucom Parents & Guardians,
This is Dr. Saunders with this week’s Sunday Kickoff Message.
First up tonight, schools across the state will once again be practicing lockdown situations this year. We will have a lockdown drill at Baucom this week. Our Aviators have either practiced with their teacher already or will to start this week. Please reach out to your Aviator’s teacher if you have any questions about what these drills look like or, as always, email me at jbsaunders@wcpss.net.
PTA’s September Meeting will be this Tuesday, September 21st, from 6 to 7pm via this Google Meet LINK. Hope you can join!
Next, there are still some families who’ve not completed their Aviator’s Emergency Contact Form online. This is the information we use, in the event of an emergency at school with your child. Please take a few minutes, at the conclusion of this call, to complete this very, very important information so that we’ll have it on file. It is linked HERE.
Next, this Saturday, September 25th, we’d love to have some helpers out at our brand-new Outdoor Learning Space. We want to polyurethane the tree trucks that’ll act as seats for the kids and we need to move some picnic tables around a bit. We’ll get started around 9am and would love to see you!
Next, PTA’s big fundraiser of each school year is almost upon us! BoosterThon makes its heralded return to 400 Hunter St with a kickoff here at school, during the school day, on Wednesday the 29th! But, donations can actually begin this Wednesday, the 22nd. Our goal is to raise $25,000 for PTA programs for the year. These include teacher grants, classroom innovations, and student enrichment programs like cultural arts, visiting author, STEAM night, Field Day, and more, as permitted by COVID-19 policies. BoosterThon is always a lot of fun for our Aviators. They’ll take part in a character program, participate in the Baucom Fun Run, and get a needed boost of school spirit, too! Tonight, we are asking you to REGISTER your family on MYBOOSTER.COM. More info can be found at the site, but we’ll also send home information as well.
Thank you all, we’re #ClearedForTakeoff, and please know that most weeks we cannot fit everything into the voice message. Please check out the emailed version of this message and specifically the Previews & Reviews section. We always have some great stuff shared there! Have a great week.

-During the week of October 25th-October 29th, Baucom will hold an entire week of activities to promote, celebrate, and support both Red Ribbon Week and National Bullying Prevention and Awareness Month. This year we will hold a Poster Contest for all students. Posters are due to the School Counselors (room 107) no later than Thursday, October 28th at 9:30am to be displayed outside the front office. A committee will judge the posters for a winner to be announced Friday morning (one winner per grade level)! Winners will receive a Baucom T-Shirt! Please see contest rules on the reverse side of the flyer linked HERE.
-Please monitor your Aviator for COVID-like symptoms in the evenings and mornings before school. This may seem obvious and most everyone is doing a great job with this, but please DO NOT send them to school if they’re displaying any of the COVID-like symptoms. Furthermore, if you’re unsure what you should do, email our COVID Coordinator, Valerie Headlee, the teacher, and me to ask your questions. Mrs. Headlee’s email is vheadlee@wcpss.net and mine is jbsaunders@wcpss.net.
We do still have delays with our buses and special transportation vans, due to the driver shortage, but some of the routes have improved quite a bit. Please continue to hang in there. Our car rider line is definitely flowing faster now. While we’re still backed up onto Hunter St as it begins, we are also clearing the line by a little after 4pm daily now. Please disregard an earlier message I sent regarding arriving onto campus at 4:05 to pick up your Aviator; we’d love to see you on or by 4pm now. Thank you for following Ms. Budway’s directions for which car you are to zipper behind and for practicing quick loads and unloads with your Aviator(s)!
