The Sunday Kickoff Message for 05/02/21
Baucom Parents & Guardians,
This is Principal Saunders with this week’s Sunday Kickoff Message. Thank you to everyone who came out Saturday for our Campus Beautification work and a special THANK YOU to Apex Baptist Church which organizes this effort annually for us!
Five-Day School Week this Week
First tonight, please note that this is a five-day school week. Students will have live instruction each day this week. Our next Remote Learning Day in the calendar is not until Thursday, May 13th.
A Keepsake for You and Yours
Next tonight, Lew Wilson, a local artist, has created a beautiful watercolor drawing of Baucom and is offering prints and ornaments. A flier with the image, more information, and pricing can be found below / in the emailed version of this message:

You can personalize the ornament to say "Class of 2021" or another year if you'd like to order one for your student! The company is generously giving 20% of the profits to the Baucom PTA. With the prospect that Baucom will be rebuilt two years from now, this would make a great keepsake for your family.
The Final Phase of Yearbook Sales
Yearbooks are still available, but we only have a limited supply of extras we ordered from Strawbridge. Once they’re gone, they’re gone. Please use the link shared below / in the emailed version of this message to order.

This is Teacher Appreciation Week
Next, please know that this week is Teacher Appreciation Week! Room parents should be communicating the plan for your class and there will be containers out in front of the school each day for Virtual Academy Teachers. As in the fall, each class has a "buddy staff member" to celebrate as well. As a reminder, you can find the staff favorites list on the Baucom PTA website and it is also linked HERE / in the emailed version of this message.
End-of-Grade Testing for 3rd to 5th Graders
Next, I’m providing a link here / in the emailed message for our EOG Testing Calendar for 3rd to 5th Grade this year. This is important to note, particularly with regards to the two Friday’s in the calendar. While other schools are beginning state testing much sooner in May, we made the decision to give our Aviators as much instructional and intervention time this month as we could to prepare them.

Half-Marathon is Wrapping Up this Week
Lastly tonight, here are the instructions regarding the half-marathon. Students participating in the half-marathon, continue to log your miles and turn your miles log into your teacher by this Friday, May 7th. Plan A students will then finish their miles, with Coach Hosterman in PE class, the week of May 17th. Virtual-student parents can bring their Aviator’s miles log by the office the week of May 17th to get their medal.
Thank you all for the support as we #riseabove at Baucom Elementary!

Previews and Reviews section (not read during spoken message)
- 5th Grade Parents – we’re working as fast as we can to make sense of restrictions and set logistics for a 5th Grade Moving Up Ceremony on one of the last days of school in June. Dr. Saunders hopes to roll out specifics to you this week in a message specifically to you all. Tentatively the plan is for two family members to attend an outdoor ceremony on the back field. We hope to livestream the event for all others who could not attend, due to COVID-related restrictions. Again, we should be able to communicate more soon!

- We want to finish the school year strong, both within Virtual Academy and at school. It’s important to help your Aviator or Aviators by maintaining routines and structures each week, until we make it to June 10th. Recently we rolled out a School-Parent Partnership document to our VA families, but want to share that here / in the emailed version of this message as a resource to reinforce this idea of finishing the year strong at Baucom.
