Dear Hortons Creek Elementary Families,


Welcome new and returning Hawks to the 2024-2025 School Year! We are excited to begin our eighth year as a school community, and we’ve been hard at work this summer preparing for a fantastic 24-25 school year. I wanted to share a few updates with you as we prepare for the upcoming year.

Important Upcoming Dates: 

  • Saturday, August 17 (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) - Kick-off to Kindergarten (Marbles Museum) (Only for rising kindergarten. Click here for more information).
  • Monday, August 26th (8:30 - 10:40 AM) Party on the Playground/Meet the Teacher for Grades 1-5. 
  • Choose one of 3 times:
    • 8:30 - 9:00 AM 
    • 9:20 - 9:50 AM 
    • 10:10 - 10:40 AM
  • Tuesday, August 27th - First Day of School!!
    Kindergarten Staggered Entry (Last Names A-G) 9:30 AM - 2:00 PM
  • Wednesday, August 28th - Kindergarten Staggered Entry (Last Names H-Ma) 9:30 AM - 2:00 PM
  • Thursday, August 29th - Kindergarten Staggered Entry (Last Names Mb-R) 9:30 AM - 2:00 PM
  • Friday, August 30th - Kindergarten Staggered Entry (Last Names S-Z) 9:30 AM - 2:00 PM
  • Tuesday, September 3rd - Kindergarten Party on the Playground/Meet the Teacher 9:40 - 10:10 AM.
  • Wednesday, September 4th - First regular day of Kindergarten

New Principal 

As most of you know, I was named principal of Hortons Creek on June 18th after the retirement of Dr. Chambers. Here is the letter I wrote to our community. I have been humbled by the outpouring of affirmation and I am excited to once again get to work in service of this community that I love so much.

Spirit Rock 

We are excited to share that we will be getting a spirit rock out in front of our school. Special thanks to Wake Stone Corp for partnering with us to make that happen. More info on the rock will be shared in the coming weeks. 


 

Hawk’s Nest Mural

A huge thank you to Anish Upadhyaya and Troop 212 for partnering with us to both clean up our courtyard area outside our cafeteria and for painting a BEAUTIFUL mural to rededicate that space as our Hawk’s Nest Courtyard for the 24-25 school year. This project represented his Eagle Scout Project.

 

Info on Hawk’s Nest Courtyard Lunch Reservations will be Forthcoming

We are pleased to announce that beginning September 10th, Hawk’s Nest Courtyard Lunch Visits will be available by reservation only. Parents/Guardians will soon be able to make a reservation to have lunch with their child in our newly renovated courtyard. However, please know that student, staff, and building safety remain our top priority and space is limited. More information on the procedures and how to make a reservation will be shared in the coming weeks.

24-25 School Procedures - Student/Family Handbook 

Please take a moment to bookmark our new and improved 24-25 Student/Family Handbook. This document provides you with a wealth of information about Hortons Creek Procedures including safety and security, arrival and dismissal, school policies including medication, and other important information for our families.

Classroom Assignments for 1st-5th grade students:

Classroom Teachers will make phone calls to families (using the contact numbers in PowerSchool) on Friday, August 23. Inevitably, not every call will make contact. Teachers will leave a message, when he/she is able to do so. Teachers will also send an email to all families once all calls have been made. This process could take place throughout the entire day; so please refrain from calling the main office anytime between 8 AM and 5 PM on this day to inquire about your child’s teacher assignment.

Classroom Assignments for Kindergarten students

Kindergarten students will have classroom assignments at the conclusion of Staggered Entry. Kindergarten teachers are gifted with the time to get to know and teach students in small groups the first week of school, which is the purpose of Staggered Entry. Kindergarten students will get to meet and interact with all of the teachers. Families will be able to meet the teachers at Party on the Playground on Tuesday, September 3 from 9:40-10:10.
