Ms. Jennifer Hawkins

Jennifer Hawkins is excited to be back Hortons Creek community this year. Mrs. Hawkins is a graduate of the University of South Carolina, where she studied Elementary Education and earned her master's in Educational Leadership and Administration. She is a huge Gamecock fan! She is a believer that learning can be both fun and challenging, and she loves working with teachers to find ways to bring that into their classrooms. Building relationships with students is essential to them feeling comfortable to take academic risks and grow as scholars, and she will work tirelessly until all students feel a sense of belonging at school. In her spare time you can catch her updating her fantasy football team, traveling with her husband, gardening, reading or chasing their dog Otis. She loves working out and playing sports! She is so excited to learn and grow with everyone at Hortons Creek this year, and is excited to see all that they can learn and accomplish together!

Mr. Michael Parker West

Michael Parker West (he/him) is Hortons Creek’s newest assistant principal. He is in his 12th year in education and has taught at both the high school and middle school level. He has spent the past 6 years at Wendell Middle School, serving first as an instructional coach and then as an assistant principal.  He comes to the HCES community with a profound respect for people and place as well as positive, sustained relationships over time. He operates through a values-based leadership lens and works tirelessly in the pursuit of closing the gap between the things we say we believe and the actions we take every day in our schools. He endeavors to apply an intersectional racial equity analysis to both his life and his work, and in his spare time he enjoys traveling with his wife, playing music on his guitar or piano, fishing, or reading a really good book. He is incredibly excited to be joining the HCES community!
