Ms. Amanda Morton

Mrs. Morton is excited and honored to join the Hortons Creek Elementary Family as the newest Assistant Principal. She is an NC Teaching Fellow and an NC Principal Fellow where she received a Bachelor's degree in Middle Grades Science Education and a Masters Degree in School Administration (K-12) from NC State University. Mrs. Morton is joining us after completing her year-long internship at Washington GT Magnet Elementary School. She previously taught 7th-grade science at Leesville Road Middle School and worked with the Before/After Care program at Leesville Road Elementary School. Hortons Creek Elementary is a place where you can really feel that #otherhawksmatter and she is grateful for the opportunity to build meaningful relationships and connections with all those in the Hawk community. Mrs. Morton is passionate about creating spaces where all students and staff feel a sense of belonging, where students can and feel motivated to take academic risks to learn and grow as scholars, and where all can reach their fullest potential. As an advocate for continuous learning, she works to promote equitable practices where all students have access and the opportunity to develop the needed skills and tools to become life-long learners. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, traveling, cooking, going to the beach, and spending quality time with family and friends. Mrs. Morton currently resides in Cary, NC with my ever-supportive husband, who is a WCPSS high school math teacher, and their three dogs. Mrs. Morton is thrilled to be joining Dr. Chambers and Mr. West on the administrative team at Hortons Creek Elementary School to support and build relationships with ALL of the amazing members of the Hawk community. She looks forward to getting to know and serve the wonderful families, students, and staff of the Hawk community this year as we learn and grow together as a family.

Mr. Michael Parker West

Michael Parker West (he/him) is one of the proud assistant principals at HCES. He is in his 13th year in education and has taught at both the high school and middle school level. Before coming to Hortons Creek, he was at Wendell Middle School, serving first as an instructional coach and then as an assistant principal.  He approaches his life and work with a profound respect for people and place as well as positive, sustained relationships over time. He operates through a values-based leadership lens and works tirelessly in the pursuit of closing the gap between the things we say we believe and the actions we take every day in our schools. He endeavors to apply an intersectional racial equity analysis to both his life and his work, and in his spare time he enjoys traveling with his wife, playing music on his guitar or piano, fishing, or reading a really good book.
