Dear White Oak Families,
On behalf of the Explorer staff, we extend our heartfelt gratitude for the immense generosity and appreciation shown last week. Witnessing the joy and enthusiasm of students as they shared special flowers, snacks, and gifts with their teachers was truly delightful and heartwarming. A special shout-out goes to our incredible PTA. Thanks to the unwavering support of all of you, the PTA ensured that our staff enjoyed a special breakfast or lunch treat each day at school. We feel incredibly fortunate to be part of such a supportive and wonderful community!
Quick Updates/Reminders:
- The annual Family Engagement Survey closes this Friday, May 17th. Your input is valuable to us, so please take a few moments to share your thoughts by filling out the survey. Thank you for your participation!
- White Oak will be hosting a second primary election on Tuesday in the gym. The election will be kept separated from the regular school day, but there will be some increased voter traffic at the side parking lot of the school.
End of Year Treats
We are continuing to do treats for ALL K-5 students for end of year assessments!
- K-2 students will get a treat for their EOY testing and 3-5 will get a snack & a treat for each day of EOGs.
Please contact Ms. Overton if you have any questions, soverton@wcpss.net. The turn around is quicker this year. All student treats must be turned in by Wednesday, May 22nd. This will give student team leaders time to count and sort by teacher, etc.
If you buy a large supply from a warehouse, please just put down how many you have (i.e. I bought a package of 36 goldfish bags = 4 packs of 9). There are GREAT deals at the Warehouse stores (I checked Costco & BJs) and Walmart/Sams.
**All donations should be dropped off in STEM room or office with a sticky note for MRS. O with the name you signed up with! Thank you! We need all family donations first so that we can sort, count, and deliver them to the teachers of K-5. Thank you for your help!! For the teacher snacks, those should be delivered closer to the days of testing.

Kindergarten:
Students began their weekly Library Circulation sessions in April. They are doing a GREAT job following library procedures and finding good books to read with their family. Nothing beats a good bedtime story!
Kinder-2nd graders:
Reading quality books, such as “Napping House,” “Jack’s Talent,” and “Rainbow Fish,” and “Jack and the Beanstalk” to address character virtues/flaws and parts of speech (nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, synonyms, antonyms), and problem-solving skills.
2nd - 5th graders:
Students created Graphic Organizers as a great note-taking alternative because you compile your facts while avoiding plagiarism. Topics included “Solar and Lunar Eclipse” and “Amphibians” and “Research with my famous Scooby-Doo video.”
Library Check-Out Ends on Friday, May 31 and all books must be returned by Thursday, June 6.
