Stories from Specialists
Arts in Motion with Ms. Burise
Happy Spring!!! Arts in Motion students are hard at work in class as well as in our new club. Masterpiece Club, for third-graders, meets on Tuesday mornings in the music room. We have analyzed VanGogh, Warhol, and O’Keeffe. We are responding to these artists by improvising on xylophones and metallophones based on the C scale. Students write music in between sessions to share when they come back to the club. They are so creative!!
- Kindergartners are showing a steady beat by playing, moving, and composing. We are exploring Hickory Dockory Dock, Star Light, Star Bright specifically.
- First-graders are creating art and poetry works based on the North Carolina state bird – the cardinal. They are also designing their own birds and poems to match their creation.
- Second-graders are constructing their own fable or fairy tale and illustrating it. They work in pairs to have a specific beginning, middle, end, and moral work to their stories. They will be displayed outside the Arts in Motion room soon!
- Third-graders are analyzing illustrations of Peter Pan as well as designing cinquains based on their favorite parts of this classic story they have studied in Language Arts.
- Fourth graders are busy preparing a readers' theatre play based in the Revolutionary War period. They will perform for each other, create timelines and poems to illustrate this time in American History.
- Fifth graders are composing Unity Raps that they will be performing on Thursday, May 9th at White Oak. These raps are based on their Language Arts class curriculum. They are also inventing Instruments of the Future. They are building prototypes of instruments for the year 2050.
I appreciate all the support and enthusiasm I receive from all the students at White Oak.
