Kim Grant, Principal
Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year! I'm excited to launch the new year and prepare our students to reach #newHEIGHTS academically and socially-emotionally.
Through differentiated instruction that is engaging and rigorous, our students will tackle complex tasks that rely on critical thinking skills to problem-solve. They will work collaboratively as they demonstrate their understanding in creative ways. Instructional technology will be used to enhance student learning and as a tool to demonstrate new learning. However, there will be a balance of "screen time" during our school day. I also believe in growing the social-emotional side of each student. Our staff and students participate in restorative circles which helps them develop relationships, establish the classroom community, and teaches each participant how to share their voice.
This year marks the second year of our new Environmental Connections Magnet theme. You will notice increased opportunities for our students to engage in inquiry-based instruction focused on environmental themes. Two Environmental Inquiry Specialists will work with all students to build their understanding of environmental education and what it means to be a good steward of the earth.
Please consider becoming a volunteer at LHECMES! We value our parents, guardians, grandparents, and community members and greatly appreciate the support. Volunteers are needed to mentor students, proctor, assist with lunch duty, chaperone field trips, read with students, and support our PTA. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer please stop at any WCPSS school to register as a volunteer and list Lincoln Heights as one of your choices.
On a personal note, I am a product of the Wake County Public School System and honored to serve in the system that raised me. I completed my undergraduate studies at UNCW in Special Education and received my graduate degree in School Administration from NCSU. I've been married for 31 years and have a 25-year-old daughter that also graduated from NCSU (Go Pack!).
Thank you for supporting Lincoln Heights Environmental Connections Magnet Elementary as we continue on our upward trajectory. I encourage you to be an active part of the legacy!
