We have faced many unknowns as we enter this summer and we might expect many more changes to existing conditions throughout the summer. As we approach the new school year, we are trying to anticipate as thoroughly as possible student transportation requirements. The unknowns regarding WCPSS bus transportation for the coming school year are great. Accordingly, the Transportation Department is in the process of completely revamping its procedures to make the system more streamlined. Transportation information has been centralized on the WCPSS Transportation website https://www.wcpss.net/domain/30. Parents and students are also now required to log on to the Student Information (Home Base) portal; https://www.wcpss.net/Domain/69 to sign up for transportation, check routes, and request waivers. Please be aware that when a student, enrolls in a WCPSS school, the default assumption by the district is that the student will not require WCPSS transportation and transportation services must be specifically requested through the Student Information (Home Base / Power School) portal.
Changes to Bus Stops –WCPSS Transportation Department will likely make significant changes to bus route patterns and stops this coming year. Please make sure that you check the correct location of your student’s bus stop by using the WCPSS information is found in the Student Information (Home Base / Power School) portal. Please be aware that normally the school’s finalized bus route plan is not published until approximately one week prior to the start of the school year. This year that date should fall on August 10th, 2020.
Car Pooling – Carpooling is encouraged as an efficient and safe way to transport students to and from school. Drivers dropping off students should utilize the front parking lot (the lot facing Peace Street) in the areas designated by signs and markings. Please do not drop off students in the rear parking lot (the lot adjoining the Holliday Gym, the auto shop, and the modular units), as this area is the designated bus loading zone and student traffic is in significant use during the 45 minutes before the start and during the 45 minutes following the end of any given school day.
