Hi! My name is Carolyn Mitlehner, and I am excited to continue my journey in education at Yates Mill Elementary! I am from Concord, North Carolina, but moved to Chapel Hill in 2016 to attend UNC…Go Heels! While there, I received my BA in Human Development and Family Studies, as well as a BA in Sociology. I also stayed an extra year to earn my Master’s of Arts in Teaching. Before joining the 5th grade team at Yates Mill, I worked as a 5th grade teacher for Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools for three years. I am passionate about creating an equitable and engaging learning environment for all! 

Outside of education, my partner, Max, and I have a beautiful two-year-old daughter named Gwen! We recently bought a home in Raleigh, and are excited to watch our daughter grow up in an area that means so much to both of us. We also have two German Shepherds, Kirra and Ares, and a tuxedo cat named Cookie. As a family, we enjoy spending time on Lake Tillery, going on walks with the dogs, reading with our daughter, and enjoying delicious home-cooked meals!
