Melody C. Brunson, Principal
I have been the proud principal of Sycamore Creek Elementary School since January 2018. This is my 31st year in education, all of which have been at year-round schools. I am a teacher at heart and have continued to teach through all of my positions, including sixth grade teacher, fourth grade teacher, Instructional Resource Teacher, and Assistant Principal. My personal mission at Sycamore Creek is to love, serve, challenge, and inspire ALL learners. I am so honored to be a member of such a loving, dedicated, and collaborative school community. The students and staff are so enthusiastic about creating a supportive learning environment, and they make me so proud every day. I am overwhelmed by the support of the PTA and Sycamore Creek families, and I love that we are such a strong school community. This school year our Sycamore Creek Crocs are dedicated to ELEVATE OUR GAME! I look forward to continuing to serve your children and families this year.

Drew Hermanson, Administrative Intern
I am ecstatic to introduce myself as the newest Administrative Intern at Sycamore Creek Elementary School! In this role, I will serve the school community by working closely with the administration team to support the needs of students and staff during the 2024-25 school year.
Before coming to Sycamore Creek, I taught Social Studies at Broughton High School in Raleigh, North Carolina, for seven years. I taught all courses, ranging from Academic to Advanced Placement, across various subjects. In addition to my teaching responsibilities, I served the school as the girls' volleyball coach, tutoring lab coordinator, and advisor for multiple student organizations. Before joining WCPSS, I graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a bachelor's degree in History and from North Carolina State University with a Master of Arts in Teaching. I am currently a graduate student at NCSU as a Principal Fellow, pursuing a Master’s in School Administration.
I can already tell that Sycamore Creek is a special place. I am eager to assist the school community at all the wonderful extracurricular events. Please look for me at the school, and feel free to introduce yourself and share how I can better help you. I hope to continue building the strong partnership the Sycamore Creek administrative team has with school families and the nearby community.
