Career Services is an on-campus career development service that operates under the School-to-Career Division of Career and Technical Education within the Wake County Public School System. It is the central hub for the career and leadership development for Heritage High School students. School-to-Career prepares every student to make knowledgeable career choices through academic rigor and work-based learning experiences.

WTCC Open House for Seniors
Expect the Unexpected at Open House on Saturday, October 11, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Wake Tech’s Southern Wake Campus. This year’s event is a collaborative effort between NCTAP, Wake Tech Community College, Wake Tech Apprenticeships powered by Wake Works, ApprenticeshipNC, and other key partners, highlighting youth and young adult apprenticeships. It is a great opportunity for students, parents, and local businesses to find out more about apprenticeship opportunities in our community.

Health Careers Day On “The Hill” at UNC Chapel Hill
Date: Thursday, November 6, 2025
Time: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Location: Frank Porter Graham Student Union on the campus of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
This is a one-day conference to offer students valuable insight, resources, and guidance as they explore Health Professional Careers. Event Registration opens on September 29th, 2025. Please note there is limited seating and both individual and group registrants will be processed on a first-come, first-serve basis. Registration is not complete until participants submit all required documentation (i.e., NC-HCAP Registration Page, CampDoc) and provide payment in full - $25.00 per student).

ACE Mentor Program
Students, are you interested in a career in Architecture, Construction Management, or Engineering? If so, you may want to consider participating in the ACE Mentor Program offered to WCPSS high school students. NCDOT Model Bridge Competition
The NCDOT Model Bridge Building Competition is a free, statewide STEM event that provides schools with materials and guidance to design and build model bridges. Students compete against peers from public and private schools in a fun, hands-on, and enriching learning experience.
Participating schools have the chance to earn prize money and gain statewide recognition.

GSK Apprenticeships are full-time entry-level opportunities that offer high school graduates and first year college students the opportunity to begin their career while working towards their Associate’s degree. This Associate’s degree is fully funded by GSK, which, yes, means NO COLLEGE DEBT!

Duke OpTech Program
Duke Ophthalmic Technician Program for graduating seniors:
- Students may begin the program after earning a high school diploma. Students must be 18 at start of clinical rotations.
- No college degree or prerequisites required
- Earn a certificate in one year with eligibility to take the certification exam

Three months of in-person classroom instruction.
- Nine months spent getting hands-on experience in clinical rotations at Duke Eye Center
- Starting pay $22-$24/hr
- 90% employment rate after program completion
- Affordable tuition and financial aid are available.
