• Specially Designed Instruction

To the maximum extent appropriate, children with disabilities, including children in public or other educational facilities, are to be educated with children who are not disabled. In addition, to the maximum extent appropriate, children with disabilities are to participate with non-disabled peers in both non-academic and extracurricular activities. Unless the individualized education program for the child with disabilities requires some other arrangement, the child is to be educated in the school that they would attend if they were not disabled. Special class, separate schools or removal of children requiring special education from the regular educational environment shall occur only when the needs of a child are such that education in the regular classes cannot be accomplished satisfactorily.

About 90% of students with disabilities are served by special education services in the school to which they are assigned by the Office of Student Assignment. These are known as base programs. Wake County also has service delivery/program options for children whose IEP requires more specialized service. About 10% of students require these regional programs.

I'm Rochelle DeSpain.  I have now lived in Wake Forest for 16 years.  I spent 11 of those years substituting at Rolesville Elementary and loved getting to know all the students.  Now as an assistant in the Extend Content Support classroom  I love helping and engaging the children as they discover their talents and abilities.

Although my children are in college they both attended Rolesville in their elementary years and it didn't take long as a parent to learn that Rolesville was the right place for them. Rolesville continues to be a great place to learn because of the commitment the teachers have towards their students and the welcoming atmosphere you feel when you enter the building.

I chose to be a part of the staff here because of the teachers and the rest of the faculty.  Everyone is so kind and there is a close community feel.  It is a great place to work and I am happy to be here!

Hi! I am Cassye Melton and I am an IA in the Pre-K Developmentally Delayed class. I have worked with children ever since graduating from The University of South Carolina in 1994. I love RES and what the faculty and staff strives to instill in the students daily; respect, effort and self control. My favorite part of my job is watching students achieve and overcome obstacles they face. I learn just as much from them as they learn from me. In my spare time, I love being with my two children, Will and Mary Ella, and my awesome husband, Craig.

I have been working at Rolesville Elementary since 2015 and in the Special Education Department since 2016. I earned a bachelor's degree and teaching certificate in 2001 at Campbell University... Go camels! After being at home raising my two children for several years, I began working again as a Teaching Assistant. I had the opportunity to take a position in Special Education in 2016 and absolutely loved it. Fast forward to 2020, and I am now teaching Cross Categorical Kindergarten with the best group of kids!

I live in Wake Forest with my husband, two kids and a dog. I love to spend time outside, at the beach and with my family and church. I also love to draw and create.

Hi! My name is Beth Horton and this is my first year at Rolesville Elementary. I have taught Kindergarten since 2007 and this is my first year back to the Preschool World. I moved to North Carolina in 2006 from New Hampshire. My husband, Dave and I have a 5 year old daughter, Mackenzie and 3 year old son, Tyler.

Hi! I'm Kristen Tyson. I moved to North Carolina 22 years ago from San Diego, California where my family still is. I have a wonderful husband, Chad and two boys, Phillip (9th grade) and Patrick (5th grade). Although I have only been an instructional assistant at RES since March of last year, I have been at Rolesville for the last 10 years. First as a parent, then working on the PTA in various roles and finally as a substitute before taking a staff position. I absolutely love Rolesville Elementary.  It is a school that has feels like one big family! At Rolesville Elementary you are not just a number, but a person. What impressed me as a parent was the care taken by all staff to get to know each student personally and to work together to put students first and help everyone succeed.  It is because of this that I wanted to be a part of the staff of RES.
