Greetings to our New and Returning Eagle Families,

Schedules
Finalized student schedules will be posted to PowerSchool accounts no later than August 18. Until then, students and families may see drafts of schedules; however, many changes will take place between now and then. Many factors go into creating student schedules which will be finalized with the primary selections and alternates that students made during the registration process. Incomplete schedules will be addressed at the Meet the Teacher event in August.
Updated RCMMS Technology Contract & Cell Phone Policy
In the next few weeks, we will be sharing with families, and then students, an updated Technology Contract & Cell Phone Policy for RCMMS. This policy will align our school with nearby middle schools requiring cell phones to remain off and stored in backpacks throughout the day.
Specifics of the policy (such as allowing cell phones at the end of the day to check on transportation changes) will be shared with families first. This will allow us to partner together in implementing this change for our returning students. We will continue to teach and model technology skills and etiquette as students learn to navigate the use of technology for educational, social, and entertainment purposes.
Prior to the pandemic, many WCPSS schools implemented BYOD initiatives allowing cell phones and other personal devices to have Internet access throughout the day. Since 2020, WCPSS has assigned chromebook devices for student use, eliminating the need for cell phones.
The decision to implement this updated policy is based on careful consideration. Additionally, studies have shown that excessive cell phone and social media use can have negative effects on the well-being of our youth. To foster a focused learning environment and facilitate positive social interactions, it is imperative that we minimize the distractions caused by cell phones.
