Register for Science Fair by October 4
Guidelines/Information for OCE Science Fair 24-25
Deadline To Register-October 4, 2024
K-2 Science Fair: January 22nd at 6:00 pm
3-5 Science Fair: January 23rd at 6:00 pm
- The projects can cover various fields of science, such as biology, chemistry, physics, earth sciences, environmental studies, and more. There are projects related to almost any interest from food to sports to chemistry to plants to human behavior. Projects can take a couple days to a month; it just depends on what you’re trying to do.
- While parents are encouraged to help, please DO NOT do the project for your child. You can help your child understand vocabulary or ideas.
- Every student will have the opportunity to present their projects.
- While grades 3-5 will have their projects judged based on a rubric, grades K-2 are experiential and provide practice. Students should be able to answer the judges questions. The top three projects will have the chance to move on to the regional fair held through NC State.-Dates TBD
- If your child’s project is selected to move on to regionals, it will be the parent’s responsibility to get your child registered. If you need help, please do not hesitate to reach out to Dr. Malhotra.
- You can take pictures or videos to enhance your presentations, but NO LIVE demonstrations are allowed during the fair.
- Any project involving drugs, firearms, weapons, or explosives are not permitted.
- Any project that breaks district policy, and/or local, state or federal laws are not permitted.
- We encourage adults to get involved by gathering materials, supervising experiments, and/or help building the display.
- Even though a lot can be learned from building a model or display, students should do an experiment. Experiments are fun, more interesting, and most of all, experiments take you through the SCIENTIFIC METHOD.
- Do not make trifolds/materials too heavy to carry or pick up.
- If you do not have help/resources to do a science fair project at home, please click here.
- All projects must be testable and safe. We reserve the right to ask you to change your idea per WCPSS safety policy.
- Students are encouraged to learn all about their topic and have fun!
- If you have questions, please email Dr. Malhotra smalhotra@wcpss.net.
