Welcome to the SPRING SESSION of LANDLUBBERS! LANDLUBBERS is OCE's very own running club. It is a parent and staff led after-school club for 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders ONLY. LANDLUBBERS will focus on using running as a way to remain heart healthy and fit (and to have some FUN!). We are gearing up for our spring session where our focus will mainly be building up running stamina and preparing for our 5k.
Needs to Know:
Landlubbers will take place on Tuesdays from 3:45 until 4:45pm starting on March 19th. The season will run until May 28th.
On Tuesdays, students will meet at the basketball court at dismissal to drop off their backpacks and head to the track for warm-ups.
All ability levels are welcome. Our goal is to have ALL the students running; however, walkers are welcome (You have to start somewhere!) We NEED positive attitudes. We NEED students who are willing to give running a CHANCE!
Landlubbers need to be willing to give 100%, to push themselves harder, and to want to be there!!
On Tuesdays, runners need to wear proper running clothes and shoes to school. Students who do not have on proper clothing and/or running shoes will not be able to participate on that day. SO PLEASE MAKE SURE TO WEAR RUNNING ATTIRE/SHOES ON TUESDAYS!
BRING A WATER BOTTLE. (We try to limit trips to the building for safety reasons, so please send a water bottle specifically for running club or a refillable one for students to fill before it starts.)
Students must be picked up in the carpool lane promptly at 4:45 pm.
In addition, there is also a link for the sign up genius to help out on the TRAIL. If we do not receive at least 10 volunteers (parents and teachers) we will be unable to run on the trail that day! Be sure to sign up!
If there is inclement weather Landlubbers will be cancelled. An announcement will be made to students at school, parents will be emailed, and it will be tweeted out.
If you have any questions or concerns please email Mrs. Marie Jones (Track 1 fifth grade) at email@example.com
Degrees and Certifications:
Hello! My name is Marie Jones and I am a fifth grade track 1 teacher at OCE. I graduated in 1999 from UNC-Charlotte with a BA in Elementary Education and a concentration in Science. I taught at Troutman Elementary in Troutman, NC for three years before moving to Raleigh in 2003. I married my high school sweetheart in June of 2003 and began teaching at OCE in August of that year. This will be my 16th year at OCE. I have taught both 4th and 5th grades.
I live in Apex with my husband Jerame and our two daughters, Indiana and Harper. Jerame is the General Manager of both Leith VW of Cary and of Raleigh. I love to spend time with my family, shop, read, and travel. One of my favorite things to do is RUN! I spend a lot of time running through Apex, participating in various 5ks. 10ks, and half marathons, and running with the Landlubbers here at OCE. Great exercise and very heart healthy! I am a huge Wolfpack fan (Go PACK!), but I also cheer on the Duke Blue Devils since I had heart surgery at Duke a few years ago.
I team teach with Mrs. McCarty, so I teach all of the ELA on track 1 5th grade. I love to read and I truly enjoy sharing my passion for reading and writing with my students.
