WECHS Celebrates Black History Month

Our B.A.S.E, Art, and Music clubs have coordinated wonderful events to celebrate Black History Month. This ASALH site includes an online celebration, and the following link includes Raleigh area events

Tuesday night, January 31, we celebrated one of our Super Seniors (13th-year student), Nusay. The WCPSS Spotlight on Students event was live-streamed and recorded. To watch, begin viewing this video at 56:21. 


This Sunday, February 5; we will cheer on the WECHS Science Olympians as they compete all day at the Duke Invitational


This week, the following National Honor Society invitation was emailed to 10th graders with a 3.1 unweighted GPA:


Congratulations! Due to your outstanding academic performance, you have been invited to apply for membership in Wake Early College's National Honor Society.   Please read the attached application carefully before completing and returning.  In order to be considered you must include with your application:

  1. completed application with signatures

  2. proof of leadership form with signatures

  3. documentation of service hour requirements

Completed applications are due no later than February 17th at 11:59 pm.  Any applications returned incomplete will not be considered.


After your application is returned and reviewed, a faculty panel will then evaluate your shown commitment to the pillars of NHS.  Invitations to join will be sent out in March.  Please do not submit any fees until a formal invitation to join has been received.

The Parent Meeting for May 2023 Graduates is Tuesday, February 7, 6:30-7:30 p.m. it will be a virtual presentation for parents regarding graduation policies, dates, etc.  The link to join the meeting is here:, The mandatory Student Meeting for the Class of 2023, is Wednesday, February 8, 2:00-3:00 p.m., in building E, Room 204 on the North campus.  You will register for the AA/AS, learn information about purchasing a WTCC cap/gown, learn about WECHS graduation, speeches, and more.

AfterSchool Tutoring 

Peer tutoring is back!  Students are available to help their peers with math, science, or English/writing.  Tutoring is currently virtual Tuesdays, Wednesdays, & Thursdays from 4 pm-5 pm so that you can get assistance from the comfort of your home.  Please fill out the google form so we can know how to assist you or your child best, and make sure that our tutors are available.

Student Services Updates:   


12th graders learned about social awareness and relationship skill building.  Check out this link from Action for Happiness on Friendship February for daily practice on relationship skill building.  


Junior Conferences started last week.  All juniors must meet with their school counselor to plan for the next step.  Parents are welcome to attend or have a meeting, too.  Please contact Mrs. Lachance (Last Name A-L) at or Mr. Muse (Last Name M-Z) at to schedule the meeting.

Class of 2023

The Graduation 2023 Parent Meeting will be held virtually on February 7 at 6:30 p.m.  Here is the join code to add to your calendar:


The Mandatory Graduation 2023 Meeting for Students will be held in person in the building auditorium on the North campus on Wednesday, February 8, at 2 p.m.  


Graduation Yearbook Ads are due February 9.

You can also order the WECHS Cap/Gown on this site. 


Mark your calendars: WECHS Class of 2023 Commencement ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, May 24th, at 7 pm. Graduation practice (mandatory) is Tuesday, May 23rd, at 1:30 pm.


Preparation for Graduation: Students can wear either the WECHS or WTCC cap and gown to WECHS graduation. Please use this link to purchase the WECHS cap/gown and other graduation items. 


Class of 2023:  We can help review applications, essays, etc., for students.  Reach out to your school counselor for help. 


Financial Aid for College:  If you have questions such as: “How do I follow up with colleges about financial aid?”  “Help! I need help understanding the financial aid package I received.”  Ms. Mayo, our financial aid counselor, is here on Mondays to help.  Please contact Ms. Hennings to schedule an appointment with Ms. Mayo.  


Scholarships: It is not too early to apply for scholarships.  Please check out our scholarship page, many search engines, and scholarship bulletin.

Career Development Corner

Is your student interested in veterinary medicine? Here are a couple of summer opportunities that are focused on vet careers. NCSU’s VetPAC is offering a summer camp for high school students. Click here for more information. Also, the USDA APHIS offers students an opportunity to participate in the AgDiscovery Program. This program offers students a unique experience at participating universities to learn more about careers in this area. Click here for additional details.


2023 AFROTC Shadow Day at NC State will be held on Wednesday, March 29th.  If your student is interested in meeting with Air Force college cadets and learning about career options, click here to get additional information.


ChickTech: High School is an organization that believes girls and non-binary youth belong in STEM.  They offer a free, year-long program filled with virtual and in-person workshops, mentoring, and internship connections. Students can click here to learn more and register. The next session, Mathigami, will take place Saturday, February 4th. See the flier for details.


Campbell University is offering STEM workshops this spring. The workshops are geared toward high school students interested in STEM fields such as engineering and health sciences. There is no cost to students, and a pizza lunch is provided.  More information can be found at their Science Education Outreach website linked HERE. 


Is your student interested in participating in an NCTAP apprenticeship?  It’s not too late for students to register for a facility tour. The tours will take place on 2/4/23 and 2/18/23. Please visit the NCTAP apprenticeship to find out more information and to register. 


Is your rising sophomore, junior, and senior interested in attending a fun, interactive, and educational camp? Cooperative Leadership Camp is a five-day overnight camp program hosted by the Cooperative Council of North Carolina. Click here to learn more about this opportunity and how to apply.


Wake County EMS is also offering an EMS Club. This group meets on the 2nd Monday of each month from 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm.  Click here for more information and the application. This opportunity is precious and rewarding. If your student is considering applying for the Wake County WCPSS High School EMT program during their senior or super senior year, this club would be a great asset for them.


The Perry Virtual Experience is a free, 2.5-hour, interactive online experience for high school and college-aged students who gender-identify as female or nonbinary and are interested in pursuing careers in orthopedics and engineering. Participants will hear from women leaders in these fields and dive into online mock orthopedic surgery simulations and biomechanics experiments. Click here for current opportunities.





All 11th graders will take the ACT on Tuesday, Mar 7, 2023, at 7:25 a.m. on the PHS Campus. Additional details will be emailed to students.

The ACT is a state assessment required by North Carolina law for all eligible eleventh graders. It is a curriculum- and standards-based assessment that evaluates college and career readiness in English, mathematics, reading, and science.


Final Exams

PHS final exams are scheduled for May 17, 18, 19, 22, and 23.


Wake Tech final exams are scheduled for May 2, 3, 4, 5, and 8.


Please do not schedule travel for these dates.

Class of 2024 Senior Trip (non-school sponsored)

Class of 2024 Senior Trip to Tanzania!

The information session for this opportunity is Thursday, February 9th at 6:30 pm on google meet. The trip is an 11-day trip to Tanzania (travel days included) planned by Explorica during spring break of 2024. It is a volunteer-based trip where students volunteer in local villages teaching children, building parks, and bringing freshwater access. At the end of the trip, there would be a traditional dinner and wildlife safari excursion. This trip allows students to become active global citizens, experience foreign cultures like never before, and have the experience of a lifetime. Below is a link with more details about the trip.
