Principal Message, November 5, 2023

Good evening MPMS Leopard families,

We are celebrating Mrs. Karina Reiff, School Psychologist, during the week of November 6th-10th as it is National School Psychology Week.

Over the past few weeks, with the changing temperatures, more students are arriving via carpool. However, the carpool rules have not changed.

Please do not drop your child off on Mills Park Road or any other place than the carpool loop. Your child’s safety is our priority. Officer Gasperson will be monitoring the situation in the mornings.

We are one of 5 finalists for WRAL's Best Middle School in the Triangle.  Please register and vote and share with all of your friends. You can only vote once but it is exciting!!!

International Night

MPMS will be hosting International Night on November 15th from 6:00-8:00. It will be a free event that will showcase the cultures of the families in our building. In addition to performances and cultural displays, there will be food trucks from Curry in a Hurry, Bulgogi. Filipino food, and Kona Ice.

Caring Leopards

Our Caring Leopards program is back again for another year! Our school community would love to help provide some holiday cheer for MPMS families that otherwise may not be able to afford them. We understand that some MPMS families are finding themselves in need this holiday season and others are wanting to find ways to assist others.

To RECEIVE Assistance:

If you are in need of assistance for the holiday season, please contact Moira Conlon at mconlon@wcpss.net or 919.414.3523 by Friday, November 17th.

To PROVIDE Assistance:

If you would like to help, we are collecting gift cards in $25 amounts. (If you would like to donate more than $25, please purchase multiple gift cards of $25 each.) Most helpful are gift cards from grocery stores, Target, and Walmart.

Gift cards will be collected through Thursday, December 14th. Gift cards can be dropped off 3 different ways:

In-person by ringing the doorbell at the school’s front desk. You can let our receptionist know that you have a gift card to drop off for the Caring Leopards program.

You may mail gift cards to the school at 441 Mills Park Dr., Cary, NC 27519 (Attn: Caring Leopards)

FBLA Shoe Drive

Did you know that your old shoes can help others? This year, the Mills Park Middle School FBLA Chapter is hosting a shoe drive during the months of November and December. We are looking for family, friends, and members of our community to participate by recycling their gently worn, used, and new shoes. Can you help us collect 25 pairs of shoes to reach our goal of 2,500 pairs of shoes?

Here’s how it works:

Start by checking around your home for pairs of shoes you have outgrown, don’t fit correctly, or are no longer in style or season. These shoes can be tennis shoes, sandals, boots, dress shoes, heels, or flats. Once you have gone through your stash, ask your family and/or neighbors to do the same! When you have collected a total of 25 pairs, you can drop them off at Mills Park Middle School - attention FBLA. Even if you can’t collect a total of 25 pairs, it’s okay. Every pair of shoes helps!

Where do the shoes go?

The shoes we collect will not only be kept out of landfills, but they will be repurposed to help support microenterprises in developing nations such as Haiti, Cambodia, and Ghana.

2,500 pairs of shoes is a LOT of shoes, but each pair you drop off gets us one step closer to our goal! Thank you in advance for your help!

sports

This week our final volleyball and Girl’s Soccer games are on Monday (11/6).  The start time for each is 4:00 pm.  The final home football game will be Thursday (11/9) with a start time of 3:45.  Our opponent is Alston Ridge this week, so fan support will be greatly appreciated against our geographical rival.  Go Leopards!

Winter sports begin next week as well.  The Girl's Basketball “Pass to Play day is Wednesday 11/8 at 3:15 in the gym.  The Boys “Pass to Play day is scheduled for 11/14 at 3:15 in the gym.  Tryouts are set to start on Wednesday 11/15.  All the information is in a slideshow on the athletic webpage. If the paperwork is not completed by 11/14, students will not be allowed to attend tryouts late due to athletes being cut for each tryout.

Complete the Google form here or on the athletic website if interested in basketball tryouts.
