Principal's Weekly Message - 9/22/24

Happy Sunday, Pride Families,

Kudos- Last year, LRHS surpassed growth expectations (exceeding growth) according to the NC school performance grades and was awarded a B school rating. I want to congratulate the dedicated staff at LRHS, who consistently prioritize teaching and learning, and the students for demonstrating outstanding academic accomplishments.

Wake Tech's Career & College Promise (CCP) program- offers eligible high school students the opportunity to earn credits toward a college degree or a credential for employment – tuition-free (there is sometimes a textbook fee.) In many cases, students earn dual credit, meeting high school graduation requirements with college courses. Interested students should review the information on the flyer found here: https://bit.ly/4gxc8nK

NC Governor's School- The North Carolina Governor's School is a four-week summer residential program for gifted and talented high school students, integrating academic disciplines, the arts, and unique courses.  Next steps for students to learn more and how to apply can be found here: https://bit.ly/3XxOqyV

Is your Senior applying to East Carolina University?  If so, students can submit their ECU application for free the week of September 23.  Check this site for more information:  https://admissions.ecu.edu/free-application-week-2024/

Scholarship Bulletin- LRHS will update this bulletin throughout the school year and share it with seniors via their homeroom.  You may view the bulletin here:

Homecoming

We are thrilled to announce the exciting themes for this year's Homecoming celebration, Welcome to Looniewood!

Let's celebrate our school spirit together, embracing camaraderie and pride! Here's what we have planned for the week:

  • Monday, September 30: La La Land

City of Stars, Dress for Stargazing

Kick off the week in comfort! Students can don their coziest attire—think hoodies and sweatpants—celebrating the spirit of La La Land. This relaxed day allows everyone to participate and enjoy!

  • Tuesday, October 1: Harry Potter

Sorting House, Class Colors

Show your class pride by wearing your house colors! Seniors can represent Gryffindor in red, juniors can sport Ravenclaw blue, sophomores can wear Slytherin green, and freshmen can shine in Hufflepuff yellow. It's a perfect way to rally support for our Powderpuff teams!

  • Wednesday, October 2: High School Musical

Getcha Head in the Game - Jersey Out

On this spirited day, we encourage students to wear jerseys from their favorite sports teams. This nod to High School Musical continues a beloved tradition and serves as a great reminder to stay motivated during this busy fall season!

  • Friday, October 4: Shrek

Get in Our Swamp! - Green Out

To wrap up the week, we'll have a Green Out inspired by the timeless classic, Shrek! This day is all about celebrating our community and inviting everyone to cheer on our teams at the game. Let's make a sea of green in the stands!

We can't wait to see everyone's creativity and enthusiasm throughout Homecoming week! Let's come together to make unforgettable memories in Looniewood!
