Principal's Weekly Message - 9/6/2021
Greetings,
This is Ian Solomon, Principal of Leesville Road High School sharing the latest news and upcoming events.
Labor Day Holiday
There is no school Monday, September 6 in observance of the Labor Day.
Teacher Workday
Tuesday, September 7 is a teacher workday. Students will return to school Wednesday, September 8.
Picture Day
Underclassmen (grades 9-11) school portraits will be taken Thursday, September 9.
Senior Class Meeting
The 2022 Senior Class Meeting will be held virtually on September 9th at 6:30 PM. Parents are strongly encouraged to attend with your student(s). You will need to have your student's WCPSS credentials to access the livestream.
Attendance Office Protocols
This is a reminder that students who need to be dismissed early should be picked up by 1:30 pm. Anytime later than 1:30 pm leads to a more congested carpool process. Also, please be sure to send all absence notes and requests to the Attendance Office and not individual teachers. Mrs. Weatherington is your contact in the attendance office at sweatherington@wcpss.net .
Chromebook Device Distribution
Chromebook device distribution began last week and will continue for the next two weeks. We are strongly encouraging all students to accept their school issued device as they are supported by WCPSS Tech Services in the event it malfunctions. Parents should also be aware that personal computers and devices are not configured and will not be usable for any standardized End of Course Tests. All students have or will receive a device acceptance form that must be filled out and returned to the media center acknowledging whether they have accepted their assigned device. This form will also be made available on our website.
PSAT Registration
The PSAT will be administered at LRHS on Wednesday, October 13 for interested 9th-11th graders. Students must register and pay $18 by Friday, September 10 to participate. Go to https://bit.ly/LRHSPSAT2021 for more information and the link to the registration form and payment site.
Student Parking (repeat)
Students are reminded that they must have a 2021-22 parking pass displayed in the car. Students should not park at the elementary or middle school parking lots. Parking on those campuses will subject your vehicle to the possibility of being towed.
LRHS Health & Safety Manual 2021-2022 (repeat)
The following link provides you with information and answers to questions you may have regarding daily operations that account for COVID-19 concerns we all have. https://tinyurl.com/lrhssafetymanual21-22
Preparing for School Transportation (repeat)
Bus routes, stops, and times have now been posted in Powerschool. Please review this information with your child(ren) and make sure they are aware of their specific transportation details. Also, due to the shortage of bus drivers, routes may be arriving earlier in the mornings, and may be dropping off later in the afternoons. The county has indicated that some students may be arriving to school as early as 6:35 AM and may leave school as late as 3:05 PM because of the need to add or double up on existing bus routes.
Additional changes could be made during the first few weeks of school. Please be reminded that students should be ready and waiting for the bus at least 10 minutes before the bus is expected to arrive. WCPSS Transportation Services ask that parents please be patient as routes settle during the first few weeks of school. With students becoming familiar with this new routine, bus routes may take more time.
Preparing for the PSAT (repeat)
Students preparing for the October 13th PSA may take the official PSAT practice tests and get diagnostic information that can be used to improve future performance. These tests can be found at https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/psat-nmsqt-psat-10/practice/full-length-practice-tests
Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society (repeat)
Mu Alpha Theta is a National Math Honor Society open to students who meet the following qualifications: Completed Math 3, completed at least one honors level math class, have completed at least two math classes in high school, and have an unweighted GPA in math classes of 3.5 or higher. Applications are due on September 27th. Please contact Ms. Conrad (tconrad2@wcpss.net) with any questions. https://forms.gle/N7oGXjnpNURnApfi6.
Thank you for your continued support of Leesville Road High School, where we take PRIDE in everything we do.
