Principal's Weekly Message - 1/11/2021
Greetings,
This is Ian Solomon, Principal of Leesville Road High School sharing the latest news and upcoming events. This edition of the Weekly Message is being shared earlier due to the amount and importance of the following information.
Preparing for On-Campus Exams – Final Preparations
What to Bring
Students may want to bring a pencil, calculator (for math exams), and a snack/lunch if they are staying for a second exam or waiting for a bus. Pencils, scrap paper, online calculators, and food provided by Child Nutrition Services (CNS) will be available for any student that does not bring these items.
When to Arrive
Students should arrive between 6:45 - 7:15 AM to participate in the required screening prior to entering the building. Students that drive may park in the student lot and get screened in the main courtyard. Students riding the bus will be screened in the bus lot. Students getting dropped off will need to enter the front lot in a single lane. These students will be screened out in front of the main entrance. All students must wear a mask and stay socially distant during their entire time on campus. If a student arrives without a mask, a mask will be provided for them.
Exam Schedule
Exams will start at 7:30 AM. CTE and Biology exams are 2 - 3 hours in length. The English II exams are 2.5 - 4 hours in length. Math exams are 3 - 4 hours in length. Students with one exam will be released once the entire class has finished their testing. Administration will escort students out of the building and will monitor social distancing until the students leave campus. Students waiting for a bus will have an opportunity to eat in the cafeteria prior to being escorted to the auditorium to wait for the busses. Students with a second exam will be escorted to the cafeteria after their first exam for a 25-minute break. During this time, they may choose to eat. After their second exam, the same protocols will be followed as listed above. Busses will not leave campus until approximately 2:20 PM. Students not wishing to wait should make necessary transportation arrangements. Students may leave campus by carpool, personal transportation, walking/riding, or by school bus.
Where to Go
All teachers should have provided the students with their room numbers for their testing assignment. In the event that any student has missed this information, or they forgot, the spreadsheets will also be posted by each entrance to allow students to check. All exams are on the 2nd floor of the main building.
Unable to Attend?
Students that are quarantined or choose not to take their in-person exams on their assigned day will have initial opportunities on February 3 or February 24 to make up the missed exam. The student will be assigned an INC until they are able to take the exam.
Grading
Students cannot fail these state exams, and their grade can only stay the same or improve. Students should give the exams their best effort with the understanding that this grading practice is in place.
Teacher-Made Exams
Teacher-made exams are to be taken remotely. The information regarding timing of these exams can be found here. Teachers can provide more clarification should the student need it. Again, students' grades cannot go down. If a student earns a grade below the average of their Q1 and Q2 grades, they will not receive this score, but rather than final grade will be an average of the two quarters, instead. If a student does not attend this exam, the student will receive the average of the two quarters' earned grades.
Questions?
Teachers can assist a student in knowing when to be present (remotely or in-person) for their specific exam. If you have more general questions, please e-mail the student's alpha administrator or counselor.
