  • Frequently Asked Questions

    What is a magnet program?
A magnet program is a unique, educational expansion to the Common Core and North Carolina Essential Standards. It is designed to attract families by offering experiences that are not available in a non-magnet school. The magnet objectives are to reduce high concentrations of poverty, promote diverse populations, maximize the use of school facilities, and provide innovative and/or expanded educational opportunities.

How do I apply to enroll my child in a magnet school if it is not our base school assignment?
The magnet application will be available October 16, 2023 – January 25, 2024.  Learn more about the application process at wcpss.net/page/189. It is only available during the application period.  All applicants must have a WCPSS student ID number in order to apply - rising kindergarten students receive their ID number when they register at their base elementary school.  Late applications are not available.

How do I know if Wiley is a Magnet school option for my family?
