    Update on hoax threats

In the past week, there have been a rash of hoax threats involving school safety around the district. Just this past week, several students have been found responsible for creating or sharing this misinformation and have faced consequences including recommendations for out-of-school suspension and a review of criminal charges.

Our pledge to you is that we will take all threats seriously and we will involve law enforcement agencies in all investigations and ask them to help us determine the validity of every threat. We will also ask law enforcement to prosecute anyone responsible to the fullest extent possible for making a threat or perpetrating a hoax.

We ask your support in the following ways:

    • If you or your child sees a threat of violence posted on social media, report it immediately to our anonymous tip line, (919) 856-1911, your school administration or law enforcement.
    • Remind your child not to share or forward until law enforcement has had a chance to investigate. Sharing threats spreads misinformation, causes panic and disruption for families, and could quickly result in consequences for your child.

    9/5 Family Message

We have completed the second week of school and are settling into systems and routines. Thank you for your patience and support as we navigate this school year.

    Virtual Open House

We will hold our Virtual Open House on Thursday, September 9th. Each teacher will hold 2 sessions. The first session will be from 6:00 – 6:25 and the second session will be from 6:30 – 6:55. Please choose the session that is most convenient for you and your family as session 2 will be a repeat of session 1. Google Meet Codes will be communicated by your classroom teacher. In addition, I will send them Wednesday evening.

    Carpool

We continue to ask for your patience in carpool. Currently, we have about 200 cars in the morning and 175 cars in the afternoon! While you are lined up on Forest Pines Drive, do not block any of the driveways and do not park your car in the apartment complex. Your car could be towed if you do. I have seen several cars make a u-turn in the middle of the road to keep from going down to turnaround safely. RPD has increased patrols in the area, and you may be ticketed.

    Remember the following….

    • Carpoolers should not turn left into Forest Pines during carpool time.
    • The only vehicles that will be allowed to turn left are buses, day care vans, FP employees, and special transportation.
    • All other cars will be asked to go down, turn around, so that they can make a right into Forest Pines.
    • Do not block driveways.
    • Even if there is no line, no cars will be allowed to turn left.

Thank you for ensuring that we have an orderly and safe carpool. (Please share these procedures with anyone that picks your student up so that they will know what to expect.

If your student has known allergies or asthma, please make sure that we have medicine on file in the front office. To do that, please call Ms. Freeborn at (919) 562-6262 and she will help you with the process.

    Sick Students

We continue to ask that you not send your students to school sick. If they are experiencing any of the following symptoms keep them home. Be sure to notify your child’s teacher.

    • Fever or chills
    • Cough
    • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
    • Fatigue
    • Muscle or body aches
    • Headache
    • New loss of taste or smell
    • Sore throat
    • Congestion or runny nose
    • Nausea or vomiting
    • Diarrhea

    Buses

If you have not done so, we encourage you to download the free "Here Comes the Bus" app. This will allow you to track your child's bus in real time. When there is a substitute bus, it will not work. Once you download the app, you will need your child's PowerSchool number (their computer login/lunch number) and the WCPSS code of 67500.
