Read Across America Dress-up Days, Writing Competition and Movie Night!
Dear Amazing Forest Pines Families,
Monday, February 26th-March1st we will be celebrating Read Across America with Dress-up Days and a writing competition. In addition, PTA will host a Movie Night on Friday, March 1st starting at 5:45 PM. Please read the important information below.
February 26th-March 1st Read Across America Week
The Student Council is proud to announce Read Across America Week. Read Across America day is officially celebrated on March 2nd. On Friday, March 1st the school will provide Drop Everything and Read Time from 9:15-9:30am. Students are encouraged to bring their favorite school appropriate book to read during this time. We are also asking students to participate in the following activities/dress-up days:
Monday, February 26th-Cat in the Hat Day- Wear red and/or white to look like the Cat in the Hat
Tuesday, February 27th- Wear Green to Support Green Eggs and Ham
Wednesday, February 28th- Dress like your favorite book character (No masks are permitted)
Thursday, February 29th-Dress like a WHO and participate in Crazy Hair Day
Friday, March 1st- Wear your FPDE shirt and/or Colors (Also bring your favorite book from home to read during Drop Everything and Read Time).
Student Council’s Read Across America Writing Competition-Submissions Due Friday March 8th
In addition, we will be hosting a writing competition. Students are asked to write a short story (3-5 paragraphs long) that includes a beginning, middle, and end with strong characters and a climax. Awards will be given in grades K-2 for the top 3 stories and 3-5 for the top 3 stories. To enter, please turn in all stories typed and with the application linked here by March 8th. This application will also be handed out by all classroom teachers. Please only put your name on the application, not the typed story so we can fairly judge the stories. All winners will be announced on March 14th. The student council officers, teachers, staff, and administration will complete the judging for all of the submissions. Happy Writing!
Movie Night March 1st Expectations for Families
PTA will be hosting a movie night on March 1st at 5:45 PM. Due to some undesirable behaviors at the Family Dance, I want to provide clear expectations for all families attending this fun event. Please see the expectations below:

All students must be accompanied by an adult.

The adult(s) that come with the child(ren) need to watch their child(ren) at all times.

All outside areas are closed, unless you are ordering food from the food truck. There is no playing in the bus loop and/or on the playground.

Please stay in designated areas for this event. These are the gym, media center, and art room.

Please throw away trash.

Students need to follow the school rules and remember to be SLY- Show Respect, Listen and Learn, Your Safety Counts
I want to thank all families for following these guidelines to ensure we have a wonderful, safe, and fun Movie Night.

We had a busy short week from teacher training to in-depth instruction in all areas. Our 5th grade students also started their 5th Grade Legacy Art project this week. We are excited to see the final product in a few weeks. Please read the important information below.

I want to announce that Forest Pines Drive was recognized for exceeding academic growth, Most improved overall district wide, and for being a Top performing Title I school. The certificates are hanging up in our front lobby. I want to thank our entire staff and parent community for contributing to the success of our school. We look forward to continued academic success.

Multicultural Night, March 14th 5:30-7:00 PM
We are excited to announce we will be hosting a Multicultural Night this year. We hope you can join us for a night of learning and fun. We will have a presentation from our Student Council, STEP Dancing from River Bend Middle School, a fashion show and more. We look forward to seeing you there.
Multicultural Night, March 14th Fashion Show Information- WE NEED YOUR HELP!
We are thrilled to announce that we are planning to host a fashion show as part of our upcoming Multicultural Night celebration! To make this fashion show a reality, we need your participation and input. We are inviting parents and students who are interested in participating in the fashion show to fill out a brief survey. Your responses will help us gauge interest, determine the types of traditional attire or costumes that will be featured, and plan logistics for the event. Attendance
This week our student services committee met and reviewed our attendance records. We noticed an increase in absences. Please ensure you are sending your child to school on a regular basis unless you have an excuse for absence and or sickness. If you have transportation or other issues that prevent your child from coming to school, please reach out to me for support at lbaggio@wcpss.net.

GIRLS ON THE RUN (GOTR)
We are so excited to kick off our first Girls on the Run Team Practice on Wednesday, February 28th at 4:15pm. If you signed your daughter up for the team, you should have received an email from Site Coordinator Katie Williams with more details. FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT
We will be showing the Super Mario Bros. movie on Friday, March 1st at 5:30pm in the School Gymnasium and Cafeteria. This is a free event that our students earned through reaching their school wide goals in our Fox Trot Fundraiser!
