• Walker Information and Registration

In accordance with state law, WCPSS does not automatically provide school bus transportation to families that reside within 1.5 miles of the school their student is attending. School Board Policy directs the Transportation Department to evaluate whether to provide transportation within 1.5 miles based on walkability factors. Accordingly, no transport zone boundaries are established. If your student resides in the no transport zone, the parent or guardian is responsible for providing transportation to and from school.  Families can use the Address Lookup found at http://wwwgis2.wcpss.net/addressLookup to see whether their student resides in the no transport zone.

ALL walkers will need a signed permission slip and approval prior to walking home. Please contact the front office for assistance.

    Walker Procedures

Walkers will wear “walker tags” on their bookbags.   These will be sent home with your student, once the walk zone status has been reviewed/ approved. Students without “walker tags” will not be released by their teacher as a “walker”.

All Kindergarten -5th grade students will be assembled by staff members in the office at 3:45 and will be escorted off our campus and released at the sidewalk directly across the school on Wallridge Drive. K-1st students will need an adult or responsible adult (listed on contacts) to be released to, while 2nd-5th grade students have permission to walk home unescorted. These students will also wear “walker tags”.
