I am Heidi Cleveland and I am excited to be teaching second grade at North Ridge again this year! Before earning my Master of Arts in Teaching at Meredith College, I taught elementary technology electives and served as an instructional assistant. I worked with middle school and senior high youth for fifteen years in a previous career, but am thrilled to be working with elementary students on a daily basis. Teaching is truly a joy, and nothing is more important than building world-changers! I like to integrate my interest in world percussion into lessons whenever possible, especially when we study sound in science. I have a daughter who is in high school, loves musical theater, and just joined marching band as a member of the color guard. My husband and I enjoy our new role as volunteer band parents!

Hi, my name is Katie Currin and I’m excited to be teaching 2nd grade at North Ridge Elementary!  I was born and raised in Huntington, West Virginia with my 2 younger brothers.  My mom and dad still live there, so I visit whenever I can.

In the spring of 2000, I graduated from Marshall University with a B.A. in Elementary Education.  I moved to Raleigh that summer and started my teaching career at The Franciscan School, where I taught 1st grade for five years.  I was hired at Leesville Elementary to teach 3rd grade in 2005 and then in 2008 I switched to 2nd grade.  I taught there until 2012 when I came to North Ridge.

On May 1, 2009 I married my best friend in Jamaica.  19 of our closest family and friends tagged along to help us celebrate.  It was an awesome adventure!  Soon after, my husband and I bought a house and moved into the North Ridge neighborhood. Our world was turned upside down in the BEST way on June 25, 2015 when my daughter, Elizabeth was born! Being a mom is the best job EVER (besides teaching, of course!) We also have a puppy named Bailey and 2 cats named Maddie and Coco.  When I’m not teaching I enjoy traveling, reading, working in the yard, watching movies, going to the beach and hanging out with family and friends.

Hello! My name is Amy Gotshalk and I am so happy to be teaching second grade at North Ridge! I grew up in Canton, Massachusetts and all of my family still lives up there. My husband and I moved to Raleigh in 2001. We love living here!

In 1993 I graduated from Lesley University with a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education. Then, in 1996 I graduated from Lesley with a Masters in Education. I got my first teaching position in Hanover, Massachusetts teaching second grade. I taught in Hanover for five years before moving to Raleigh. Once in Raleigh, I got a first grade position at Wakefield Elementary. I stayed there until 2009 and then went to Stough Elementary. There I taught one year in Kindergarten and three years in first grade. When we recently moved to a new house, North Ridge was our base school. My children decided they wanted to transfer there and I followed along! We are so happy to be here!

Speaking of my children, my oldest is Aaron and he is in the seventh grade, Mollie is in the fifth grade and my youngest Max, is in second grade. They are all loving North Ridge and tell me every day how happy they are that we all made the switch to North Ridge. As a family we love to participate and watch sports. We are die hard New England sports fan. Every Sunday we are huddled around the TV watching the Patriots! All three kids play soccer so you may see us on the field on any given Saturday.

I LOVE to read and I try to read as much as I can. My number one goal is to instill the lifelong LOVE of reading to each and every one of my students. Happy reading!

Hi North Ridge Families! My name is Lauren Philbeck Spangler. I am originally from the small town of Shelby, North Carolina, but have called Raleigh my home for over 12 years now. I also consider North Ridge to be my home as I have been a proud unicorn for more than 8 years.

I graduated from Meredith College with a degree in Mass Communication, a minor in Professional Writing, and my K-6 Teaching License. I then attended NC State University where I earned my Masters of Education in Instructional Technology.

My husband, Stephen, and I were married in May of 2017. In our free time we enjoy hanging out with our friends. trying new foods, watching sports, and traveling to Myrtle Beach and New Orleans where some of our family lives.

In my classroom I have high expectations of all my students. We work hard and learn a lot, but I also ensure that my students know they are cared about. I feel like it is very important to create an environment where students feel safe, know they're loved, and treat others with kindness.

Hello!  My name is Heather Williams, and I am embarking on my eighth year of teaching this 2017-18 school year! I have four years of experience working with special needs children across multiple grade levels in Georgia and one outstanding year of teaching kindergarten here at North Ridge Elementary School! This is my third year in 2nd grade, and I’m thrilled to be here! Between the fabulous teachers, students, and parents at NRES, I have nothing but words of praise and gratitude! Teaching here has been a dream come true!

While I’m obviously passionate about teaching, I also enjoy curling up with my cat and a good book, as well as writing poetry, drawing, painting, photography, and scrap-booking in my spare time. You might even spot me at a local park or nature trail walking my Morkie with my husband on the weekends.

I look forward to another incredible year helping to inspire and empower my students to realize their full potential and let their light shine bright!
