• North Garner Middle School

In 1923 the construction of Garner School on Garner Road brought about the development of the area’s first subdivisions. The school served all grades and stands today as a senior living center. As the population grew the need for more educational space grew.  Garner High School, which is currently North Garner Middle School, is located on Powell Drive behind Garner School and was built in 1954. The school served grades 9 – 12 until a new high school opened on the other side of US 70. The Powell Drive location became North Garner Junior High and housed eighth and ninth grades. The 1970’s brought about grade level changes that would continue to occur over the next 25 years. In the 1980’s and 1990’s North Garner would house various grade levels. North Garner Middle School has remained sixth, seventh, and eighth grades since the 1990’s. North Garner went from a traditional calendar school to a year-round multi-track school in 2007 and to a single-track 4 year-round school in 2013.

North Garner Middle School is one of the only middle schools in Wake County to have a football stadium. This is a result of having been a high school in previous years. With the new construction and renovation, the field received updates as well as a garage and concession area. In September 2015 the football field was renamed Wilton H. Bunn Field. This is the same field, Mr. Bunn was coached on. The same field his children played on and the same field he cuts and maintains, even today.
