Mrs. Brittney Lara

Principal

It is with great excitement and deep gratitude that I introduce myself as the new principal of Turner Creek Elementary. I am honored to join this exceptional community, one known for its rich traditions, outstanding students, and passionate commitment to learning. From the moment I first learned about Turner Creek, I was drawn to the energy, pride, and care that radiates from its classrooms and hallways. I am eager to build strong, meaningful relationships with our students, staff, and families. Together, I believe we can create an even stronger foundation, one built on connection, trust, and shared vision.

I have had the privilege of serving in various roles across education, including classroom teacher, instructional coach, and school administrator. Throughout my career, I have been driven by the belief that every child deserves to be challenged, supported, and inspired. I am passionate about creating learning environments where students are encouraged to think critically, explore boldly, and grow into compassionate and productive 21st-century thinkers.

I am a proud graduate of UNC Charlotte, where I earned my B.A. in Elementary Education. Additionally, I hold a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction (K–12) with a focus on New Literacies and Global Learning from NC State, and a Master of School Administration from Longwood University. In my free time, I enjoy reading, cooking, walking my dogs Callie and Charlotte, and spending time with friends and family.

Ms. Tomarah Lipscomb

Assistant Principal

I am so excited to be serving as the Assistant Principal here at Turner Creek! This is my 4th year as an assistant principal and my 28th year in education.

I am originally from Connecticut but also lived in New Jersey before moving to North Carolina to attend North Carolina A&T State University, where I earned my undergraduate degree.

My journey in education began in Guilford County, where I taught Special Education Pre-K and later Kindergarten. I then moved to Maryland and taught 2nd grade before returning to North Carolina, where I spent two years teaching 1st grade in Durham County.

After relocating to Wake County, I continued teaching and later served as a Coordinating Teacher for the WCPSS Academic Department for six years. During that time, I pursued and completed my Master of School Administration (MSA) at East Carolina University.

Outside of school, I’m proud to be the mother of two amazing young adults—Kyle (21) and Mia (19). They keep me grounded and remind me daily why I am so passionate about helping students grow and succeed.

I look forward to continuing this work at Turner Creek and building meaningful connections within our school community.
