Casey Bingham is an Art Teacher at Hortons Creek Elementary. She has been at Hortons Creek since its opening and this will be here fourth year teaching Art. She got her Bachelor's Degree in Art Education at Appalachian State University. She grew up in Cary, NC and is a proud alumni of Cary High School. When She is not teaching, you can find her thrift shopping for hidden treasures, painting, or exploring nature trails. She is passionate about teaching creative thinking through the TAB curriculum, and offering students an opportunity to choose what they make in their art classes. She is very excited to continue teaching and guiding students this coming school year.
Ms. Dortch is excited to begin serving in the AIG and Enrichment Specialist role this year. This is her 3rd year at HCES, & 9th year teaching. She has a soon to be 1 year old son. When she’s not working, she can be found cooking, baking, or relaxing with family. She graduated from NCCU with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education, Duke University in AIG Licensure, & Gardner-Webb with a Master's in Curriculum & Instruction. Building strong & long lasting relationships is her passion. She believes in being a life -long learner and is thrilled to continue this journey in a new role.
Ms. Haithcock grew up in Lenoir, NC. She went to Campbell University, then earned her Masters of Library Science at North Carolina Central University. She is entering her 9th year as a librarian, and her 3rd year with Wake County Public Schools. When not at school, Ms. Haithcock loves talking about books with her Bookstagram community, going to Kickboxing and Spin class, hiking, going to the Symphony, and singing alto with the North Carolina Master Chorale.
Mrs. Miller is starting her 16th year teaching Elementary Physical Education in Wake County. She was born and raised in Toledo, OH and attended the University of Toledo. Mrs. Miller has been married to her husband J for 14 years and they have two sons ages 11 & 4. She enjoys spending as much time as possible in the outdoors and on the water with her family. Mrs. Miller loves creating innovative lessons to keep her students actively engaged and having fun during PE class.
Laura Pomes is originally from Long Island, New York. Mrs. Pomes and her husband, Anthony, moved to North Carolina in 2007 after completing her Master's degree in Elementary Education at Queens College. She has two Hawks of her own! Nicholas is in 5th grade and Vincent is in 2nd grade. Science has always been her passion, so she is very excited to be teaching science again this year to all the Hortons Creek Hawks!! Experiments and hands on experiences bring so much excitement into the learning environment. Mrs. Pomes hopes her passion and excitement allow her students to grow their love of science as well. When she is not teaching, she loves to shop, work in her vegetable garden, watch baseball, read, go on road trips, spend time with her family, watch scary movies, and cook/bake.
Ms. Renville is a California native that moved to North Carolina just a short time ago. She is a graduate of Savannah College of Art and Design, and this will be her third year teaching as a Hortons Creek Hawk. Whether it is a line, a shape, a photograph or a rhyme, Ms. Renville loves art and considers it all sublime, and she absolutely cannot wait to share it with you! When she is not teaching, Ms. Renville loves spending time with her husband, three kids and their dog, she loves exploring North Carolina and the East coast, but most of all, she adores seeking out all things color!
Ms. Rowdy is a ninth year educator, was born and raised in North Carolina and a proud NCSU alum (GO PACK)! She is a huge advocate for all things education but is most passionate about ensuring that all students have what they need to be successful & making learning memorable, meaningful and exciting. When she is not with students or tinkering with school projects, you can probably find her near any body of water! She also loves painting, traveling, reading, coding/web developing, spending time with friends and family, and learning a new skill or hobby. She is thrilled about starting another year at Hortons Creek teaching STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) and looks forward to getting to know all of the students and families!
Rachel Sanders is in her 8th year of teaching and her 2nd as the music teacher at HCES! Before coming to Wake County, Ms Sanders served as the Theater and Choral director for 3 years at Perquimans County High School. Before entering a career in public education, Ms. Sanders ran her own private voice studio, served as a Theater Director at Artios Academies, taught with The South Carolina Children’s Theater, and acted professionally with The Logos Theatre and the Applied Theater Center in Greenville, SC. During this time, she sang as a mezzo-soprano with the Rivertree Singers, with whom she toured the southeast in elite choral festivals. Ms. Sanders has performed all over the world, including Austria, Germany, the Czech Republic, and across the United States in countless concerts and performed in over 20 main stage productions. Some of her favorite roles have been Maria in The Sound of Music, Marmee in Little Women, Laurey in Oklahoma!, and Queen Aggravain in Once Upon a Mattress. Ms. Sanders holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Furman University in Greenville, SC, where she specialized in vocal/choral music as a performer and a director.
While she loves to perform, investing in others is her passion. It is a joy and an honor to share music and its ability to change lives for the better. She believes that the arts have the power to foster community, compassion for one another, character, a strong work ethic, increased intellect, and a deeper understanding of who we are as individual humans and as a people. She is excited to teach the students of Hortons Creek Elementary and to unveil more of the beauty they hold inside through the arts!
