Ms. Aman's May 9 Family Message

Posted by Kelly Aman on 5/8/2021 1:00:00 PM

Thursday, May 13 is an asynchronous day.  Assignments will be posted by 8:15am so students do not have to log in throughout the school day to access work.  All students will be learning from home on Thursday.

Teacher Appreciation Week!  Thank you to our amazing PTA who feted teachers last week with a taco lunch for Cinco de Mayo and a biscuit breakfast on Friday!  Thanks, too, for the many West Millbrook families who sent notes of thanks and appreciation to our teachers.

PTA Meeting will be next week, May 18 at 6:30pm!  This is our final PTA meeting of the school year.  I am so proud of all that our PTA has accomplished – virtually – since March 2020 when the pandemic began.  Their support has continued, and our students and teachers benefit from that!

Happy Mother’s Day to all of our Wildcat mothers!

EOG/EOC End of Year Testing begins on May 27.  The draft testing schedule is available here.  As a reminder we are not permitted to interrupt the testing setting and are not able to check students out the school-wide testing session concludes.  Additionally, FitBits and SmartWatches are not permitted in the testing session.  Please have students leave those items at home.

What’s Happening at West Millbrook?

The Battle of the Books  Team ended their year last week with a virtual win over Zebulon Middle School. Nine students participated in this virtual team during this pandemic year.  Members read up to 21 high-quality novels in preparation for virtual competitions.  Congratulations to our participants!

The Beta Club will have their last virtual meeting of the year on Tuesday, May 11 at 7 p.m.  Officers will be installed and plans for next year will be discussed.

End of Year Logistics

WCPSS Technology Return Guidance

Any student who has a WCPSS-issued hotspot must return it to their school by the end of the school year. Hotspots will be disabled after the last day of school.  West Millbrook will collect hotspots at the front office, June 7th, 8th, and 9th 8:30am -2:00pm.

Students who have a WCPSS-issued Chromebook and will be attending a WCPSS school next year will keep their Chromebook through the transition to the 2021-22 school year. Students are not required to return their Chromebooks to their school at the end of this school year, even if they are transferring or advancing to another WCPSS school. Students who are graduating or leaving WCPSS are required to return all devices to their school on or before their last day.

Bring Back Books Bash

We are getting close to the end of the school year.  It is time to return Language and Literature novels that have not been returned.  If your student is in Plan A, make sure they bring the outstanding book to school and give it to their Language and Literature teacher by May 21.  If your student is in VA, please drop-off all novels, labeled with your student's name, from May 10th-21st from 8:30am- 2pm at the main office.  We are still accepting novels that may not have been returned from the 2019-20 school year.

EL Text Titles and Cost

A fine will be added to your student's account for any novel that is not returned.

8th Grade Promotion Event  With the help of our marvelous PTA we are planning a drive through promotion event for our soon-to-be high school freshmen!  The event is planned for Thursday, June 10 and more information will be sent to 8th grade families!
