Good afternoon, Husky Families!

 

Wow! What a busy week. Thanks to all who supported our Spirit Week activities.   We are looking forward to the Homecoming Game tonight and the dance tomorrow!  For those coming to the dance, please be reminded, that only “clear bags” will be allowed at the event, shoes must be worn at all times, and all school rules apply.   Thank you!

 

Here are this week’s announcements:

 

BIMAS-2 Screening: All parents, please review the attached letter about the upcoming WCPSS universal screener of social, emotional, and behavioral health.  If you wish to opt-out your student from the screening, return the attached opt-out form to Student Services by 10/21/24

Bullying Prevention Month:  October is National Bullying Prevention Month, and we invite students to participate by wearing:  Orange on October 16 for Unity Day

Credit by Demonstrated Mastery - (CDM) is an opportunity for students to earn a course credit by demonstrating knowledge and skills in that specific content area.  Initial applications will be accepted October 14 - December 20.  Review information here for more details, application instructions, and contact information for questions.

 

Wake Tech Dual Enrollment (Career and College Promise) for Spring 2025 is open for new and current CCP students.  Information about the program and next steps can be found here.  Be sure to review Heritage HS specific information/action steps here.

 

Picture Makeup NEW DATE - If your 9th-11th grade student missed school picture day last week, make-ups/retakes are scheduled for Friday, October 18th.

Sophomore Specific Information

Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Conference (HOBY) school nomination forms opened 9/23. They are due Nov. 4 by 2:30pm.  Those interested should apply via this  nomination form.   Students need to submit the school's nomination form, and a team will review and select a school representative for the HOBY Conference in June 2025.

There will be a Pack Day session on Enrichment programs during second period 10/23. It is important to learn how to build your resume BEFORE senior year.

Sophomore and Junior Specific Information

NC Governor's School is a statewide 4-week summer residential program for students interested in studying an academic or artistic subject in depth. Open to all Juniors in the area of Academics and Arts and for select sophomores interested in the Arts: Choral & Instrumental, Performing Arts, Dance, and Visual Arts only.

The Governor's school application period is OPEN. If students are interested, they should speak with their school counselor and be sure to contact the teacher of interest/content they plan to apply for a recommendation. To apply Click  APPLICATION & RECOMMENDATION.  All application materials are due no later than October 18, 2024 to Student Services c/o Ms. Santos.
