Good afternoon, Husky Families!

 

Here are this week’s announcements:

Bullying Prevention Month:  October is National Bullying Prevention Month, and we invite students to participate by wearing:

  • Blue on October 7 for World Bullying Prevention Day

  • Orange on October 16 for Unity Day

Thank you for your continued support in promoting kindness, inclusion, and awareness.

Check Out Request:  Please note that we have a scheduled Pep Rally on October 11th for students.  There will be no unscheduled check-outs after 12:45. If there is a need to check out your child that afternoon, please communicate with Mrs. Wood (bmwood@wcpss.net) ahead of time so it can be pre-arranged.  

 

Counselor News:  Heritage High School is offering the SOS Signs of Suicide Prevention Program refresher course to 12th graders in English during October.  If you do NOT want your student to participate, please notify their English teacher by October 14. If we don't hear from you, we will assume your child has permission to participate. For any questions, please contact your student's school counselor.

 

Credit by Demonstrated Mastery - (CDM) is an opportunity for students to earn a course credit by demonstrating knowledge and skills in that specific content area.  Initial applications will be accepted October 14 - December 20.  Review information here for more details, application instructions, and contact information for questions.

 

Wake Tech Dual Enrollment (Career and College Promise) for the Spring 2025 is open for new and current CCP students.  Information about the program and next steps can be found here.  Be sure to review Heritage HS specific information/action steps here.

Homecoming Events:  October 7th-11th is Spirit Week!

  • Monday:  Tie vs. Tie-Dye  -if it’s a blue tie or tie-dye, even better!

  • Tuesday: Biker vs. Surfer 

  • Wednesday: Jersey Out

  • Thursday: Throwback Thursday

  • Friday: Class Colors (9th = white, 10th = gray, 11th = navy, 12th = neon green)

We are excited to announce this year’s Homecoming Dance, themed “Under the Sea,” which will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at Heritage High School from 7:00 to 10:00 PM. The doors will open at 6:45 PM, and the event promises to be a fun and memorable evening for our students.  Please review dance rules and procedures here:   Homecoming Ticket Information Sales close October 7. Hurricane Helene Relief Effort - We have two groups who are collecting donations for Hurricane Helene victims through October 11.  Our FFA students are working with the Wake Forest and Rolesville Fire Departments to get these donations to western areas in need. Our Student Athletics Representatives' are collecting donations as part of the Region 3 drive, led by Athens Drive High SAAC members, who will get these items to affected schools. 

 

Picture Makeup NEW DATE - If your 9th-11th grade student missed school picture day last week, make-ups/retakes are scheduled for Friday, October 18th.

PTSA Information - The next PTSA meeting on Tuesday, October 8 at 6:30pm in the Media Center.  All are welcome!

Please help us make our HHS staff feel hauntingly happy with treats for their meeting on October 7. Below is a list of items we need to ensure our teachers are celebrated and fueled for a productive meeting. All items should be received in the HHS office by the morning of 10/7 labeled for HHS PTSA. Another Way to Support the PTSA:

Volunteers - Families and individuals who want to volunteer are encouraged to do so.  The renewal window has been extended to October 14.  Review volunteer renewal details.

 

Sophomore and Junior Specific Information

NC Governor's School is a statewide 4-week summer residential program for students interested in studying an academic or artistic subject in depth. Open to all Juniors in the area of Academics and Arts and for select sophomores interested in the Arts: Choral & Instrumental, Performing Arts, Dance, and Visual Arts only.

The Governor's school application period is OPEN. If students are interested, they should speak with their school counselor and be sure to contact the teacher of interest/content they plan to apply for a recommendation. To apply Click  APPLICATION & RECOMMENDATION.  All application materials are due no later than October 18, 2024 to Student Services c/o Ms. Santos. 

Senior Specific Information

Seniors, get ready for the Senior Roundup on Tuesday, October 8th by reviewing the agenda here and the list of colleges, employers, and military branches here.

 

Financial Aid Night will be Wednesday, October 9th, at 6:30pm in the Heritage HS Auditorium. Ms. Waldrum, our Financial Aid Advisor, will share general information about financial aid and specific information about the FAFSA.
