Hello Huskies,

 

Heritage High School is offering the S.O.S. Signs of Suicide Prevention Program to all 9th graders who are currently enrolled in Healthful Living and a "refresher course" to all 12th graders who are currently enrolled in English 4/AP English Literature starting Thursday, October 13 and running through November. If you do NOT wish your child to participate in the S.O.S. program in school, please contact your child’s Healthful Living or English teacher by Monday, Oct. 2. If we do not hear back from you, we will assume that your child has permission to participate in this program.

 

If your 9th-11th grade student missed picture day on Sept. 8, we will have make-ups/retakes on Tuesday, October 16.

 

HHS Career Development Services website for students has moved. You can find it HERE. From the HHS website, click students then "Career Development." On Monday 10/3, students will participate in a school wide survey to measure their perceptions of the school environment. This is part of the accreditation and school improvement process. All responses are anonymous and no student information will be collected.

 

The Homecoming Dance is this Saturday from 7:00 - 10:00 pm at Heritage High School.  Please make sure students bring their tickets

 

The make-up date for PowderPuff has been set for Friday, October 6 from 2:30 -4:30 pm in the Stadium.

 

The late work deadline is this coming Friday, October 6.  Please encourage your child to make up any assignments he/she may be missing that were assigned after the first late work deadline on September 15.

 

Sophomore and Junior Specific Information

 

NC Governor's School is a statewide 4-week summer residential program for students interested in studying an academic or artistic subject in depth. This program is open to eligible 11th grade students in the area of Academics and Arts and for eligible 10th grade students interested in the Arts: Choral & Instrumental, Performing Arts, Dance, and Visual Arts only.

The NC Governor's School application is OPEN. Watch the Governor's School Information Video and review the Family Overview Information Sheet (English) or in (Espanol).  If your student is interested in applying, please have them contact their school counselor and be sure to reach out to the teacher of interest/content they plan to apply in for a recommendation. All application packets MUST include the completed application form, 2 recommendations (1 recommendation MUST be from a teacher of the content area applying for), and video, if applying in any of the Arts discipline areas*. The application packet is DUE no later than October 23, 2023 by 2:30 pm to Student Services.

 

Senior Specific Information

 

Class of 2024 – Remember that Tuesday, October 10 is your Senior Round Up.  This is a regular school day and attendance will be taken.  We will have over 40 colleges, universities, trade schools, military representatives, and local full-time employers for you to meet with.  Access more specific information here.

 

Seniors who were absent for the makeup portraits on September 8 should contact Prestige Portraits and schedule a portrait session prior to December 15.  Any photos taken after this date aren’t guaranteed a spot in the yearbook.  Contact Prestige at (800) 343-5735 or online here.

We are looking for volunteers for a WCPSS event, Great Xplorations at NCSU McKimmon Center on Nov. 30. Volunteers are needed for our networking session with students. You would greet students and listen to their elevator pitch and give feedback in a small group setting. Network with other adults while you are there!
