Hello Huskies,
I hope everyone had an amazing spring break and you were able to enjoy some much-needed family time.
Start Fourth Quarter Strong! Report cards will be distributed directly to students on Wednesday, April 12 in Husky Headquarters. Students will also receive a list of their requested courses for the upcoming year. Please review this list with your student and make any necessary changes. Students should return the list to Student Services. Contact your child’s counselor with questions.
We are offering the SOS Signs of Suicide Prevention Program "refresher course" in April to all 12th graders who are currently enrolled in English. If you do NOT wish your child to take a written screening test for depression and participate in the SOS Program in school, please contact your child’s English teacher. If we do not hear back from you, we will assume that your child has permission to participate in this program.
The Counseling and Student Services department welcomes Mr. Rob Clark as the counselor for students in 10th-12th grades with last names A-Ek. His official start day is Monday, April 10. His email address is rclark6@wcpss.net.
Over 700 of our students will be taking AP exams May 1 – May 12. There is critical information to know and tasks to complete to ensure access to exams. Learn more at our AP page here. This site will continue to be updated as we get closer to May 1.
School Opportunities:
Mark your calendars for our Post High School Planning Night on April 19. We will be hosting a college admissions panel, financial aid information, gap year opportunities, NCAA eligibility information, stress management and wellness, transition services information for students with disabilities, and so much more. Access flyer here.
WCPSS will host Xtreme Beginnings, a career & college preparation event for high school students on Thursday, April 20, 2023, at the McKimmon Center at NCSU. We are in need of volunteers to be interviewers for our mock interviews. We are also looking for businesses that are hiring (part-time, internships and/or full-time). Click here for more information about the event. If you are looking to hire and want a table, click HERE. If you are able to participate, you can sign up here. After you sign up, you will receive more information closer to the event date. Feel free to share this message and invite others to join you for our event. Email Dawn Beaster at dbeaster@wcpss.net with any questions.
HHS will host a spring employment fair for students in all grade levels on May 9. A variety of employers will be on campus in the cafe promoting part-time, full-time, summer employment and internships. Students can click this LINK to learn more about the companies attending and sign up using the link given during advisory in the month of April.
Parents of Sophomores: All 10th graders participated in a HHS Career Services session on career planning and internships during Sophomore Roundup. Many resources were shared. You can find that information HERE. Any questions, contact Dawn Beaster, Career Development Coordinator at dbeaster@wcpss.net.
Junior Specific Information:
ACT scores will be available online within 3-8 weeks of the test date (March 21). Students should ensure they created a myact.org account to view their scores. Having trouble with the account? Please see or email Ms. Rupert at krupert@wcpss.net. If students missed the original test date, the make-up is April 18.
Senior Specific Information:
Missed Senior Send-Off last night or need to review information you heard? Access Senior Send-Off slides here.
Missed Jostens? They’ll be back on campus May 4 for the final distribution of caps, gowns, and other graduation items. Still need to order? See details and access QR code to place an order here.
Seniors with scholarship offers are asked to report them, whether they accept them or not, so that we may have an accurate accounting for the Class of 2023. The reporting form is located online and paper copies are available in Student Services.
Warm regards,
Scott Lyons
