Hello Huskies,

5 For Your Future is a school-wide initiative for all students. The 5 categories are: social emotional intelligence, financial literacy, global citizenship, college/career ready and active citizenship. Each grade level will have a session in the auditorium during advisory once a month to focus on one of five topics. Follow-up activities will then be disseminated through advisory for each of the topics throughout the year. To support this initiative, discuss the "5" topics with your son/daughter, encourage follow-up activities, and volunteer to assist with the implementation of this program. Upcoming dates: 9/27, 10/4 and 10/18 from 8:45-9:15am.  If interested in volunteering to support this program, contact Ms. Beaster at dbeaster@wcpss.net

We invite you to attend a Virtual HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) College Fair on Saturday, September 25, 2021 from 10:00 am-1:00 pm. This event is free of cost and open to high school students and parents.  Learn more about Paying for College, SAT/ACT Prep, Preparing for College While in High School, and The College Experience - getting real advice from current students of HBCUs. Students and parents can register for the college fair at https://bit.ly/2021-sto-hbcu. After registration, you will receive an email with the Zoom details needed to join the virtual college fair.

Visit the HHS Student Services homepage to view the Post-HS Planning Events calendar.  There are several upcoming in-person and virtual college visit opportunities.  Some college visits require pre-registration. For example, UNC Chapel Hill’s virtual visit on 9/23 and NC State’s virtual visit on 9/27 requires pre-registration. See details at https://sites.google.com/wcpss.net/studentserviceshhs/home.

Seniors who were absent for the makeup portraits on September 10 should contact Prestige Portraits and schedule a portrait session prior to November 15.  Any photos taken after November 15 aren’t guaranteed a spot in the yearbook.  Contact Prestige at 919-377-0026.

Senior Conferences are underway and continuing through October 8.  Seniors are encouraged to bring their completed senior info sheets and any questions they may have to their meeting.  ALL seniors will receive individual planning time with their counselor in order to accomplish necessary tasks for post high school transition.  Encourage your senior(s) to complete this survey bit.ly/HHSSeniorMeeting2022.  Throughout the month of September, Dr. Tate will meet with all 9th graders to familiarize students with available school resources to support a strong start to high school success.

Warm regards,

Scott Lyons
