Principal's Weekly Message

Posted by Scott Lyons on 8/7/2020 10:25:00 AM

Hello, Huskies,

Several new items have been posted to the start of school section of the website, including the Two Week Orientation Schedule for August 17 – 28 and updated bell schedules.  You are encouraged to review this information as a family.

We are excited about next week’s virtual new student and new parent events on Wednesday, August 12 and hope that you are able to participate.  Look for access information in an upcoming text and email early next week.  New student orientation access is posted within the orientation flyer on the website.

Senior Orientation and Senior Info Night are virtual events and will be Tuesday, August 11.  Please details and access information on the flyers which you’ll find on the website as well.

PowerSchool will be available again on August 12 for students to view tentative schedules.  The demand for meeting needs of virtual academy and blended learning programs has significantly decreased the ability to allow for course changes.  Please view the “Student Schedules” document in the start of school section of the website for more details about student schedules.

Juniors and Seniors will be able to submit required paperwork for parking on campus beginning August 18.  More information is posted in the start of school section of the website.

Upcoming Events and Times:

August 11 (1pm, 2pm, 3pm) Virtual Senior Orientation for Students

August 11 (5:30pm, 6:30pm) Virtual Senior Info Night for Seniors and Parents

August 12 (1pm, 2pm, 3pm) Virtual Early Start Day for Freshmen and New Students

August 12 (5:30pm, 6:30pm) Virtual New Parent Orientation

WCPSS continues to post new information in the “Return to Campus” website.  You can access it from our school website and click on COVID 19 Updates or go directly to www.wcpss.net/returntocampus.

The state immunization law requires that all students, including those participating in the virtual academy, are up to date with immunizations by the first day of school.  For us, this is August 17.   There are no extensions for this date.  Seniors are now required to have the meningococcal vaccine.  Also, for Seniors a 2nd meningococcal vaccine may be required for students by 17 years of age or entering 12th grade. Please consult your doctor to see if you meet this requirement. You are encouraged to immediately check with your doctor to ensure your child is up to date and provide the school with an updated copy of the shot record.  If you do not have a healthcare provider, you can call 919-562-6300 to schedule an appointment at the Health and Human Services Northern Regional Center.  Please do not delay in providing this information to our school.  You can email the records to pjenks@wcpss.net, fax to 919-670-4212, or drop off records in the designated box at the front of the school on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8am to 3pm.  Full details will be available in the Start of School section of the HHS website.

If your child has completed the Driver’s Education program and received a completion certificate, you may request an appointment for a Driver’s Eligibility Certificate. Send email to dcwilliams@wcpss.net to get started.  You may visit full instructions in the Start of School section of our school website.  If you need information about enrolling in driver’s education, please contact Jordan Driving School directly.

We are working on a socially distanced approved senior event for the first day of school.  Stay tuned.

Warm regards,

Scott Lyons
