Principal's Weekly Message
Posted by Scott Lyons on 7/31/2020 12:20:00 PM
Hello, Huskies,
I hope everyone is having a great summer given the current situation with the pandemic!
If you registered for the Virtual Academy, you will receive an email confirmation letter on Monday. If you do not receive an email, please reach out to jcdrake@wcpss.net. Your information may need to be updated in our system.
We have made a couple of adjustments to the bell schedules and they should be on our website next week. Everyone will follow the Reopening bell schedule, whether on Virtual Academy or on Plan B Transition, since all will be taught virtually at first. When we move to Plan B, rotating students in and out of the building, then we will have two separate bell schedules (Virtual Academy and Blended Learning).
All new students to WCPSS will receive Wake ID access next week via US mail. Be sure to look for this important information. They will need this information to access PowerSchool for schedules as well as other school related applications.
Monday, August 3 is the deadline for seniors to submit midyear graduation or reduced course load applications. These forms are on the academic page of our website. Click on the Course Registration tab and scroll down to find and download the form. Email all completed applications to dcwilliams@wcpss.net.
Schedules for all students, virtual academy and blended learning, will be available to view on August 12 via PowerSchool. We thank you in advance for your patience if you are calling and emailing with questions, as full staff does not return until August 13. We will provide instructions for students to submit schedule questions once schedules are available to view. You are encouraged to visit our “start of school” section of the website often as more information gets posted. You will need to scroll down beyond the calendar to view this information.
Upcoming Events and Times:
August 11 (1pm, 2pm, 3pm) Virtual Senior Orientation for Students
August 11 (5:30pm, 6:30pm) Virtual Senior Info Night for Seniors and Parents
August 12 (1pm, 2pm, 3pm) Virtual Early Start Day for Freshmen and New Students
August 12 (5:30pm, 6:30pm) Virtual New Parent Orientation
Access codes for all these events will be posted in the start of school box on the main page of the website as well as via email as we get closer to the event dates.
WCPSS continues to post new information in the “Return to Campus” website. You can access it from our school website and click on COVID 19 Updates or go directly to www.wcpss.net/returntocampus.
The state immunization law requires that all students, including those participating in the Virtual Academy, are up to date with immunizations by the first day of school. For us, this is August 17. There are no extensions for this date. Seniors are now required to have the meningococcal vaccine. Also, for Seniors a 2nd meningococcal vaccine may be required for students by 17 years of age or entering 12th grade. Please consult your doctor to see if you meet this requirement. You are encouraged to immediately check with your doctor to ensure your child is up to date and provide the school with an updated copy of the shot record. If you do not have a healthcare provider, you can call 919-562-6300 to schedule an appointment at the Health and Human Services Northern Regional Center. Please do not delay in providing this information to our school. You can email the records to pjenks@wcpss.net, fax to 919-670-4212, or drop off records in the designated box at the front of the school on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8am to 3pm. Full details will be available in the Start of School section of the HHS website.
Abbreviated summer office hours are Tuesday and Wednesday, 8am – 3pm. You’re encouraged to call the office first. If you need to reach someone, you may leave a message at our main number 919-570-5600.
If your child has completed the Driver’s Education program and received a completion certificate, you may request an appointment for a Driver’s Eligibility Certificate. Send email to dcwilliams@wcpss.net to get started. You may visit full instructions in the Start of School section of our school website.
Warm regards,
Scott Lyons
