Principal's Weekly Message

Posted by Scott Lyons on 7/24/2020 3:35:00 PM

Hello, Huskies,

The “Start of School” section of the main page of our website has additional information, including details about the virtual and blended learning bell schedules.  All students will begin with the virtual bell schedule.  For explanation of the schedules, be sure to view the video that’s also provided.

Starting Monday, July 27 at 12:01 am, the district will reopen the portal for virtual academy registration.  The portal will remain open until it closes for a final time on Wednesday, July 29, at 5:00 pm.  After this deadline, no more requests will be accepted.  Need more information about the virtual academy?  Go to www.wcpss.net/virtual-academy.  Also, if you’ve already registered for the virtual academy program but need to make a change in semester/year preference, send an email to the HHS virtual academy contact at jcdrake@wcpss.net.  You must also send these requests by 5:00 pm on Wednesday, July 29.

The state immunization law requires that all students, including those participating in the Virtual Academy, are up to date with immunizations by the first day of school.  For us, this is August 17.   There are no extensions for this date.  Seniors are now required to have the meningococcal vaccine.  Also, for Seniors a 2nd meningococcal vaccine may be required for students by 17 years of age or entering 12th grade. Please consult your doctor to see if you meet this requirement. You are encouraged to immediately check with your doctor to ensure your child is up to date and provide the school with an updated copy of the vaccination record.  If you do not have a healthcare provider, you can call 919-562-6300 to schedule an appointment at the Health and Human Services Northern Regional Center.  Please do not delay in providing this information to our school.  You can email the records to pjenks@wcpss.net, fax to 919-670-4212, or drop off records in the designated box at the front of the school on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm.  Full details will be available in the Start of School section of the HHS website.

We have been notified of the technical issues with being able to schedule a senior portrait sitting.  We will let you know once the issue is resolved.  You can still view package options at  prestigeportraits.com or view the flyer in the “start of school” box on the main page of our website.

AP exam scores are now available for viewing.  Students who took an AP exam but do not see scores should reach out directly to the CollegeBoard program.

Abbreviated summer office hours are Tuesday and Wednesday, 8:00 am – 3:00 pm.  You’re encouraged to call the office first. If you need to reach someone, you may leave a message at our main number 919-570-5600.  As a reminder, our regular staff is on summer break.  We are understandably experiencing an increase in inquiries about various start of school needs.  Because of reduced staff, you may experience extended wait times for a reply.  You are encouraged whenever possible to first visit our website initially as this may offer clarity or even answer to general questions.

If you haven’t already, please visit the district’s “Return to Campus” website.  You can access it from our school website and click on COVID 19 Update or go directly to www.wcpss.net/returntocampus.

Please mark your calendar for these virtual events:

Tuesday, August 11:  Senior Orientation

Wednesday, August 12:  New Student Orientation, Parent Orientation, Senior Info Night

If your child has completed the Driver’s Education program and received a completion certificate, you may request an appointment for a Driver’s Eligibility Certificate. Send an email to dcwilliams@wcpss.net to get started.  You may visit full instructions in the Start of School section of our school website.

A message from the PTSA:

Heritage High School PTSA will be hosting a new teacher luncheon for all new teachers and staff this year on August 10th as they will be at school learning all about Heritage and how to how to make this a successful year for all of our students.  In order to make this luncheon as nice as possible and give them a warm Husky welcome, we are asking for donations to help offset the cost of the luncheon.  Any amount is appreciated and we thank you in advance for your generosity.  Please click on the link to make your donation.
