Principal's Weekly Message

Posted by Scott Lyons on 7/10/2020 12:25:00 PM

Hello, Huskies,

We hope this message finds you safe and healthy and that you are finding time this summer to enjoy family and friends.  This message is to provide you with a few updates as we prepare for the start of the 2020 – 2021 school year.

The WCPSS School Board approved the recommendation to begin the school year while maintaining social distancing in classrooms and on buses. In order to do this, students will be divided into 3 groups.  The week of August 17 and the week of August 24, each cohort will attend 1 day of school each week for orientation purposes.  After the first two weeks:

Week of August 31:  Group 1 comes to school while Groups 2 and 3 engage in remote learning

Week of Sept 7: Group 2 comes to school while Groups 1 and 3 engage in remote learning

Week of Sept 14: Group 3 comes to school while Groups 1 and 2 engage in remote learning

This cycle will be repeated.

Groups are being assigned at the district level.  We anticipate students will know their assigned cohort by the beginning of August.

If you haven’t already, please visit the district’s “Return to Campus” website.  You can access it from our school website and click on COVID 19 Update or go directly to www.wcpss.net/returntocampus.

The WCPSS Virtual Academy is an online learning option for students this school year who may, for health reasons or other, choose not to engage in a face to face learning environment.  You can find information about the virtual academy as well as the “apply” link on the return to campus page or go directly to www.wcpss.net/virtual-academy.   Students who participate in the virtual academy are expected to commit for the entire semester.  Students can choose fall or fall and spring semesters.  Requests should be submitted by July 20.

Please mark your calendar for:

Tuesday, August 11 - Senior Orientation

Wednesday, August 12 - New Student Orientation, Parent Orientation, Senior Info Night

Whether face to face or virtual, we hope that you are able to join us for these events.  More details to come.

We will continue to provide Driver’s Eligibility Certificates by appointment only, per district guidelines.  Send email to dcwilliams@wcpss.net to get started.

If you need to reach someone, you may leave a message at our main number 919-570-5600.

I hope everyone has a great weekend.

Warm regards,

Scott Lyons
