Principal's Message 3/24/25

First Annual Senior Legacy Walk

Penny Road Elementary is excited and proud to be extending an invitation to high school seniors who attended Penny Road as elementary school students to return for a legacy walk through the hallways in the caps and gowns, leading our fifth grade parade on the last day of school.  This parade will be held on Friday, June 13 at 10:15 AM.  Interested seniors should RSVP here!  Penny Road parents, please help us get the word out by sharing with friends and neighbors.  Thank you!

A Message from Mr. Ellis

Dear Penny Road Families,

It is with a bittersweet heart that I share some news with you. My time at Penny Road Elementary will be coming to an end, as I have recently made the difficult decision to step away from my role as assistant principal as of April 30.

I want you to know that this move was completely unexpected, but I have been presented with an opportunity outside of education that I truly feel is the best decision for my family and our goals at this time. While I am excited for this next chapter, the hardest part is knowing how much I will miss working with the incredible staff, students, and families that make Penny Road such a special place.

When I first accepted this position, so many people told me what a unique and wonderful school community this was. At the time, I believed them—but now, having spent the last two years here, I know exactly what they meant. Penny Road is more than just a school; it’s a family, and I am grateful to have been a part of it.

Thank you for your kindness, support, and the trust you have placed in me. It has truly been an honor to serve this community, and I will cherish the memories and relationships I have built here. I look forward to watching Penny Road continue to thrive, and I will always be cheering our pandas on from afar.

With warm regards,

Philip Ellis

We are so grateful for the contributions Mr. Ellis has made to our school community over the last two years and wish him and his family well as he prepares for this career change.  We are moving forward with the recruitment process for our next assistant principal with the plan to have someone in place to begin on May 1.  If you would like to provide input to the interview committee, parents can do that here.

Planning for 2025-2026

We have entered into the planning and hiring season for the 25-26 school year and need your help!

If you have a child who will be five by August 31, they will be eligible for kindergarten next year!  By completing the enrollment process at your earliest convenience, it allows the school to more accurately plan for the number of classes that we will need.

If you plan to leave WCPSS next year (either due to a move or a transition to a charter or private school), please let us know by completing this form.  This information is crucial to our planning of class lists as well as our determination of the number of classes at each grade level.
