We miss our pandas so much, but hope that everyone is having a safe and relaxing summer vacation. We can't wait to welcome our students back in just over three weeks!
In order to support a smooth start, there are some important reminders, announcements, and action items for families that we want to share:
The school supply lists are available on our school website (and linked above). If your family pre-ordered a supply box through the PTA, these are the same items that you will receive. If possible, please bring school supplies to Meet the Teacher (Friday, August 23 for first through fifth grades & Tuesday, September 3 for kindergarten).
Meet the Teacher 2024-2025
We are so excited to welcome our families into the building on Friday, August 23 from 5PM to 6PM for a Meet the Teacher event. This is a drop-in event, so please feel free to come by anytime during that window to walk to the classroom, drop off school supplies, and meet the teacher. We will also have several tables setup in the Media Center with helpful information.
Kindergarten pandas, though you will not yet have a teacher to meet or a classroom to visit, we welcome you to join us for this event. Check-in at the kindergarten table in the library for a fun opportunity to get to know our school! Kindergarten Meet the Teacher will be held Tuesday, September 3. Time to be announced soon.
Teacher Assignments
First through fifth grade families will be notified of their teacher assignment via email on Thursday, August 22. The email will go to the address listed in PowerSchool, which is the same address where this message was sent. If you need to update an email address, please call the school and ask to speak to the data manager.
Kindergarten families will be notified of their teacher assignment at the Meet the Teacher event on Tuesday, September 3.
Kindergarten Staggered Entry
Our youngest pandas only come to school on one of the first five days of school, in a process called staggered entry.
Students are assigned to this day according to the first letter of their last name:
Last name A through G - Tuesday, August 27
Last name H through L - Wednesday, August 28
Last name M through R - Thursday, August 29
Last name S through Z - Friday, August 30
On this day, students will meet all of our kindergarten teachers as they rotate through various activities to help orient them to school. Class lists will be created following the conclusion of staggered entry and the Kindergarten Meet the Teacher event will be held on Tuesday, September 3. If you have a conflict and your assigned staggered entry day does not work for you, please reach out to me at sharrison1@wcpss.net and we will work to make arrangements.
The form can be done from anywhere! Volunteer clearance is needed for classroom volunteers, field trip chaperones, and volunteers for special events like field day. This has to be renewed each school year, so unless you've done it since July 1, please do it again. Go ahead and check this off your to-do list.
