May 31, 2024

It's hard to believe that there are only a few days left in the 2023-2024 school year!  Our third grade students did an amazing job kicking off our EOG testing yesterday and today with confidence, effort, and 100% attendance!  We know fourth and fifth grade students will continue to proudly show what they know on their EOGs starting Monday.

Retirement Announcement

As many may have heard, our beloved music teacher, Ms. Koch will be retiring at the end of this school year.  We are so grateful for the many years of service she has provided to Penny Road and for the legacy of performing arts that she has helped to create.  Her shoes will be impossible to fill, but Penny Road is committed to continuing to support the arts through engaging music classes, a chorus, and performance opportunities.  Thank you to the many parents who have reached out to offer support in keeping these programs thriving.  I know you will all join us in expressing our heartfelt gratitude to Ms. Koch for her amazing career.  We will certainly miss her.

Leaving WCPSS in 2024-2025?

As we close out this amazing school year, we are also planning for a successful start to the 2024-2025 school year.  In order to assist with staffing and the planning of class lists, we are asking that anyone who may be leaving WCPSS let us know by completing this form.  This applies whether your family is moving away, or if you've chosen a private or charter option for next year.  Please don't hesitate to reach out to Letisha Pierce, data manager, with any questions.  Thank you!

2024-2025 Meet the Teacher Save the Date

We will hold our first through fifth grade Meet the Teacher Event the afternoon of Friday, August 23 from 5PM to 6PM.  Mark your calendars for this drop-in event to kick-off the 2024-2025 school year!

Though our incoming kindergarten pandas will have their Meet the Teacher event on Tuesday, September 3 (after each child has attended a day of staggered entry), we welcome them to also attend on August 23 for a kindergarten scavenger hunt around the building.

Parent Input for 2024-2025 Class Consideration

Just as we did last year, we are providing a form for parents who would like to share any special considerations for their child's class placement for next year.  This is an optional form that parents can choose whether to complete.

Please know that we have a very purposeful, carefully thought out process for student class assignments. We use data in addition to our knowledge of student strengths and personalities to develop balanced classes that we expect to be successful.  Placing students in classrooms is a team effort including input from the current classroom teacher, specialists, counselors and administrators.

However, even with a strong process, we recognize that there may be factors that are unknown to us that may help an individual child have a successful year.  Therefore, we choose to provide this form as an option for parents who feel that their child has needs beyond what is known by our school team that should be considered when making classroom placements for the next school year.

Please note that this process is to collect information about your child and their unique needs that will assist in decisions about class placements.  There is no place for requesting a teacher for next year.  Forms that include a request for a specific teacher will not be processed.  We ask that you please complete a different form for each student in your family and complete this form online instead of submitting emails or paper letters. Thank you!
