WECHS Principal's Weekly Message 9/30/22
Happy Friday! (Saturday)
Hoping all family and friends are safe as Hurricane Ian made it through North Carolina. I held off on sending this message yesterday as many folks were losing power and the internet. This morning, over 52,000 people are still without power in the Raleigh area. I’m hoping everyone is OK.
WTCC and WECHS will be closed Monday and Tuesday for Fall Break. If you have an emergency, contact me, Principal Cummings.
The WTCC PHS Library will be closed next week for renovation! Students who use this during lunch, after school, and printing will need to make other arrangements.
Congratulations to students on a successful first quarter! High school class grades will be finalized by Wednesday, and report cards will be sent home soon. Honor Roll Breakfast for the PHS campus is scheduled for Friday, October 14, at 7:30 am. A signup link is available to send in goodies and to volunteer your time for this event. We celebrate North Campus at the end of the semester when college grades are posted.
It is recruitment season, and word of mouth is our best advertisement. If you know someone who would be interested in attending WECHS next year, see the link and information below under “outreach.”
We’ve been celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month at WECHS! Check out the tweets about our Latinx alum.
The District 4 WCPSS School Board Advisory Council was held on Tuesday evening, during which the WCPSS Office of Student Assignment presented the 23-24 WCPSS Draft Enrollment Plan Article. Please use this Thought Exchange link to provide feedback and be specific if listing a bus route or school.
The voter registration deadline is October 14, 2022, for the general elections on November 8, 2022. (After October 14, 2022, only same-day registration during one-stop early voting is available.) The civilian voter registration deadline in North Carolina is 25 days before Election Day. All nine WCPSS School Board District seats and four of the seven Wake County Commission districts will be on the November ballot. This site is a non-partisan resource for election information.
The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) is beginning a process to overhaul school performance grades and is seeking public input. The state’s A-F performance grades were developed so communities could better understand the quality of North Carolina’s public schools. On WECHS Works Wednesday, Professor Clarke from the WTCC Nursing Department gave our students the necessary information regarding the program requirements, nursing careers, and industry trends. Students had an opportunity to ask questions and check out a simulation of an infant mannequin. In addition, we were so excited to have a former WECHS student currently completing the WTCC Nursing program join us on a break from her clinical rotation in maternal and child health. Thank you to Natalie H. for your valuable insight, time, and expertise.
Wake County EMS is also offering an EMS Club. This group meets on the 2nd Monday of each month from 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm. Click here for more information and the application. This opportunity is precious and rewarding. If your student is considering applying for the Wake County WCPSS High School EMT program during their senior or super senior year, this club would be a great asset for them.
