SALAMANDER NEWS 4/30/23

Dear Salem Families,

Last week’s Field Day for Tracks 1 & 2 was a huge success, in spite of the weather! We are so thankful for our amazing PTA for hosting this event!

Mrs. Calvert and Mrs. Malpass would like to invite you all to our Night of the Arts. This event will include an art show and a performance of Aladdin. To accommodate all our tracks, we will have the event on 2 consecutive nights. We encourage families to choose 1 night to attend. We look forward to celebrating the talents of our Salem students!

This school year, WCPSS is again conducting district wide End of Grade (EOG) retesting for students in grades 3-5. Only students in grades 3-5 who qualify for retesting AND choose to participate will be attending school on June 5th and 7th for Track 1 and June 29th and 30th for Tracks 2, 3, & 4. You will be contacted by the school directly if you are eligible for retesting AND if you have opted in to test by clicking HERE and completing the form by May 19th .

If you have NOT been contacted about your child being eligible for a retest, your child should not be on campus on the readministration days.

FAMILY SURVEY! Wake County Public Schools is administering a District Wide Family Survey giving families the opportunity to provide valuable information & a high-quality data source for planning and School Improvement. Families can choose the language the survey is given in to ensure all families have a voice. Please complete the survey here: https://surveys.panoramaed.com/wakecounty/family/surveys

Below are several reminders for parents and families:

  1. Please remember that guests can ONLY enter the school building through the main entrance at the front of the school and be sure to check into the office. Please help us keep our campus safe and secure by following this expectation.

  2. The bell rings at 9:15 each morning. Students are considered tardy after that time. Please be aware that we do morning announcements each day at 9:10 so that instruction can begin promptly at 9:15. If your student arrives at or after this time they are missing valuable instructional time in their classroom. Please try to have students on campus by 9:00 so that they have time to get to their classrooms before the day gets started!

  3. Students who have cell phones or smart watches should not have them out during the instructional school day (8:45 - 3:45). While we know students may need to have them after school for communicating with families these must be off and stowed in backpacks during the instructional day as they become considerable distractions from learning in the classroom. Please help us in supporting these expectations for our students.

  4. If your student requires a change of clothes from the school’s clothes closet please be sure to wash the clothes and return them to school. We are happy to provide students with a change of clothes, when needed, but we are beginning to run low on items because they are not coming back to school. Thank you for your help in this matter!
