3-17-23 Principal’s Weekly Message

• Friday, March 24th will be an Early Release Day.  School will dismiss at 12:15 pm.  

• PTSA Grounds Day - March 25th from 9-1 pm.  Come out and volunteer to help spruce up our campus and to make some great connections with other people in our school community.

• FAFSA

Many colleges and universities require students to complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) to be considered for financial aid opportunities. At this time 54% of Cary High seniors have completed the FAFSA. Mrs. Waters, our financial aid counselor, is available every Wednesday to assist students and families with completing the FAFSA. Her last day on campus is May 10th. Register for an appointment time. 

• SENIORS - SCHOLARSHIPS

Many scholarship deadlines are in March and April. Don’t miss these great opportunities! Scholarship opportunities can be found on the Cary High School website, in the monthly scholarship bulletin and on the bulletin board in Student Services. Counselors are available in the Student Services Career Center during lunch on Wednesdays to assist students with scholarship applications. 

Seniors and parents, don’t forget to let us know when you have received a scholarship! 

• COLLEGE & CAREER PLANNING NIGHT

Mark your calendars! We will be holding a College and Career Planning Night on Tuesday, April 18th from 5:30-8:00pm. This event is open to all students and families.  Colleges from across the state of North Carolina as well as out of state will be attending along with military recruiters and apprenticeship program representatives. There will also be information on financial aid and a chance to hear from Cary High alumni about their transition to college. We’re excited to see you there!

• Career and College Promise (CCP)

The North Carolina Career and College Promise program is an opportunity for high school students to take tuition-free dual enrollment classes through a community college. Most students participate in the program as juniors and seniors. The Wake Tech CCP enrollment cycle began Wednesday, March 1st. The course schedule opens April 3rd and students can begin registering for classes on April 13th. Counselors will be available during lunch on Wednesdays during March in the Student Services Career Center to assist students with the application process and to answer questions. Interested students should begin by reviewing the eligibility requirements and watching Wake Tech’s CCP information video. 

• Seniors: If you have not ordered your cap/gown, please do so this week. The link is on the CHS homepage. Also, senior dues of $40 need to be paid by the end of this month. They can be paid online by going to the CHS website, clicking on parents and then on online payments.

• Get Involved with PTSA

The PTSA is looking for volunteers to help support our amazing staff, teachers, and students. Work alongside other parents and students on Teacher Appreciation, Grounds Beautification, Arts Projects, Membership, and more! Volunteering with PTSA benefits your students, their classmates, and the entire CHS community. And, it’s fun and fulfilling for you! Questions? Send an email to connect@caryhighptsa.com.
