7/5 Principal's Message

How will I know my child’s Teacher?

Class lists for Grades 1-5 will be posted electronically to each Grade Level Website (Faculty Directory & Class Links) on the Alston Ridge ES website, and in the front windows to the school, on Tuesday (7/5) by 6 p.m. Each student’s name will be listed by the last initial and first name (Example: S, Niko).

Meet the Teacher, 2022-2023

We are looking forward to welcoming families to visit the school in-person to meet their child’s teacher. Times are listed below for each Track. Track 4 Meet the Teacher will be later in July. Kindergarten Meet the Teacher will be held on the day prior to the first full day of Kindergarten (Kindergarteners will only attend for 1 half-day during the first week of “Staggered Entry”, Kindergarten Orientation Slideshow, FAQ and Staggered Entry information is available on the Kindergarten Website)

Please bring the following to Meet the Teacher:

  • Chromebook: Families are asked to bring their child’s Chromebook to Meet the Teacher—families will use the Chromebook to fill out electronic forms and submit important information (e.g., contact information, how their student will go home from school for the first week, volunteer registration)
  • School Supplies: Families are invited to bring any school supplies with them to Meet the Teacher to reduce the burden for students on the first day of school. School Supply Lists are available on the Alston Ridge ES website.

At Meet the Teacher families should:

  • Meet your child’s Teacher!
  • Register as a volunteer with Wake County Schools for future opportunities to chaperone field trips and assist in the classroom and throughout the school
  • Practice walking to the classroom from the bus or carpool doors
  • Confirm Bus Transportation and make a bus stop request if needed
  • Pick up a Carpool Tag for families who will regularly use carpool for dismissal
  • Pick up a Walker Tag for families who live in the school’s immediate Walk-Zone
  • Sign-in Medications to the front office (must include physician’s orders on WCPSS Form 1702)
  • Add money to student Meal Accounts and fill out Free and Reduced Price Lunch Applications
  • Purchase Alston Ridge ES Spiritwear from the Parent Teacher Association (PTA)

If you can’t make it to Meet the Teacher, that’s okay! Meet the Teacher is a fun opportunity to have students walk the halls with their family to launch their new year; however, teachers will be ready to receive all students on the first day of school that a child is able to attend, and will support them to navigate the school and feel prepared when they arrive!

School Hours and Arrival

School arrival begins at 8:45 a.m. each day and all students are expected to be in their classrooms and ready to learn by 9:15 a.m. when the learning day will promptly begin.

Dismissal begins at 3:45 p.m. with walkers, carpool, and the first round of bus dismissal. Dismissal processes are expected to be completed by 4:15 p.m. daily. Bus transportation timing is dependent on driver availability and routes—families are encouraged by WCPSS Transportation to use Here Comes The Bus! to assist with tracking bus routes/timing. All bus transportation is managed by the WCPSS Transportation department.

Families are encouraged to begin using their normal mode of transportation for arrival and dismissal as soon as possible to build consistent routines and enable bus drivers to predict their routes; however, families with students in Grades 1-5 are permitted to walk their student in to school on the first day.

All afternoon pickups must be via the carpool line, a designated school bus stop, or by foot for those families who do not have access to bus transportation because they live in the school’s immediate Walk Zone. Early pick-ups must be completed by 3:30 p.m. After 3:30 p.m., families may be asked to use the carpool line to avoid confusion as the students and faculty prepare for a safe and orderly dismissal.

School Calendars

Alston Ridge Elementary is a multi-track  year-round calendar school. The WCPSS Year-Round Calendar 2022-2023 shows all four tracks. Individual track calendars are also available on the WCPSS School Calendars & Schedules site: Track 1 / Track 2 / Track 3 / Track 4.

Calendars are subject to change by the WCPSS Board of Education and due to inclement weather.

Early Release Days

The WCPSS Board of Education has approved Early Release Days for the 2022-2023 school year. All early release days are 2-hours early to allow for Professional Development district-wide. For Alston Ridge Elementary School, 2-hours early dismissal means dismissal will begin at 1:45 p.m. on designated days.
