5/28 Principal's Message
Alston Ridge Families:
I hope that you continue to be safe and well. Next week begins the month of June and with it will be the fast-approaching end to our school year. Track 1 will end on next Thursday (June 4) followed by Tracks 2, 3, & 4 the following week on Thursday (June 11). During this unusual year I am personally grateful for the ways that every family is continuing support for their students at home through so many challenges. As you anticipate the days ahead, the following are a few reminders.
Report Cards
All WCPSS Report Cards will be shared with families in the upcoming week. Track 1 report cards will be e-mailed to families on Thursday, May 28. Tracks 2, 3, and 4 report cards will be e-mailed to families on Thursday, June 4. Only Track 1 report cards will include any marks for Quarter 3 because Track 1 was the only cohort who completed the quarter. For Quarter 4, comments are provided as a profile of your student’s demonstrated proficiency for the year in core learning domains. For families where e-mail contact information is not available, report cards will be mailed. Please do not hesitate to contact your student’s teacher with any questions regarding the report card.
Student Supplies Pick-up & School Closing
To retrieve items that were left at school prior to the 3/13 school closure for COVID-19, as well as to return school materials that have been kept at home during the school closure, please review the Pick-up Dates & Procedures. The school building continues to be closed to the public. Drive-thru pick-up will be contactless and should be safe for faculty and families. If you are aware that your student has items at school to pick-up, please plan to appear on the day designated for your student’s track, at the time assigned for the grade level. Any questions about specific classroom items may be addressed directly to the student’s teacher. For medication pick-up, please contact the school’s main office directly at 919-544-2474.
Intent to Return
Thank you to the families of more than 400 students who have responded already. Please take 5 minutes to complete the 2020-2021 Family Intent to Return (https://forms.gle/o8UxUJxkHxmuC2DL9) survey about your family’s plans to continue at Alston Ridge Elementary in the new year. We are excited to be able to welcome our community back to school in August and want to protect the outstanding teaching and learning that you expect at our school, as well as your student’s social and emotional development and safety.
Proposed 2020-2021 School Calendars
At the school district’s next Board of Education meeting the Board will vote to approve calendars for the upcoming school year. Calendars currently under consideration for multi-track year-round schools start school in August for the 2020-2021 year, and extend the school day by an additional 15 minutes.
School Supplies for 2020-2021
To have all your student’s school supplies waiting for them in their new classroom for the upcoming school year, and to save a visit to the store, the Alston Ridge Elementary PTA has partnered with our classroom teachers to develop complete lists with 1st Day School Supplies for one-stop ordering at costs that are significantly below the standard retail pricing for items.
2020-2021 Bus Registration
Bus registration is available for the upcoming school year via the WCPSS Transportation website--families can request new bus service for the 2020-2021 school year, and transportation information will be updated via the student information system: Home Base/PowerSchool.
