8/25 Principal Message
Alston Ridge Alligators:
By the end of the week we will be on to September. Hopefully by now your family has cemented the school routines that will make for a successful year, ahead of the busy-ness of fall activities in the community. As we move into our third month, I offer you a few reminders and an invitation to join us this month as we build a foundation for community engagement throughout the year—I hope the coming month will lead you back here to school often.
Buses for the 1st Week of the Traditional Calendar
The rest of Wake County’s 161,000 students will begin school this week. Several of our bus drivers also drive for traditional calendar middle and high schools. Although our route times have normalized in the past month (even with 3 of our drivers running 2 routes back-to-back with Alston Ridge Elementary students), delays are expected as drivers accommodate new ridership and routes. Please prepare to be patient. For added predictability, utilize the Here Comes the Bus app to track your student’s transit.
Updated Alston Ridge Student/Parent Handbook
The ARES Student/Parent Handbook has been updated and is available on our school’s website—it includes logistics and policies that may help to navigate our school.
Open House and Curriculum Night Events
A reminder that it is the last week to RSVP for younger children who will need childcare (provided onsite in partnership with the YMCA and Cary Teen Council) during school-wide Curriculum Nights on Thursday, 9/5 at 6 pm and Thursday, 9/26 at 6 pm. Curriculum sessions will be followed by additional Open House sessions for families on two of our tracks each evening. Students are also invited to attend—we will show the movie Toy Story in grade level groups. After both events there will be music and ice cream food truck/cart (for purchase) in the front loop for families to visit and enjoy the evening as a community. The 9/26 Curriculum Night will also include access to the Book Fair before and after sessions.
