School Counselors
Elementary school counselors in North Carolina help students demonstrate a positive attitude towards self, gain life planning skills, and develop responsible social skills. School success is increased as children use these skills to understand and to appreciate the lifelong process of learning, growing, and changing.The school counseling program at Herbert Akins Road Elementary School strives to serve the needs of all students; ensure that all children are successful and happy in school; promote student learning and achievement; enhance school climate; facilitate communication between administrators, parents, and staff; and develop and coordinate school wide programs. The following are reasons that you may wish to contact us: child's achievement, child's behavior, problems with friends, changes in family environment (divorce or separation), death of a loved one, child's special needs, or other life events/transitions that may be affecting your child. -
School Psychologist
School psychologists are uniquely qualified members of school teams that support students' ability to learn and teachers' ability to teach. They apply expertise in mental health, learning, and behavior to help children succeed academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally.At HARES, the school psychologist works directly with students, provides educational assessments, leads individual and group skills development sessions, and helps students develop positive self-concepts by linking efforts to achievements. The school psychologist consults and collaborates with school staff and parents to provide support on school intervention and leadership teams, analyzing and explaining educational data, developing classroom accommodations and modifications, and meeting with parents. The school psychologist supports academic achievement, positive behavior, and mental wellness of all HARES students. -
